So a crazy thing happened at the AD.......

........to preface, I've been in love with the DSOTM Vintage Black since it was released in 2012. However, I have never pulled the trigger for a variety of reasons, mostly due to size and the fact that I was worried about putting a ding in the ceramic case/pushers. I'm over both of those issues and have been getting closer to pulling the trigger.

Well, while trying on the watch yet again, I decided to look at the new speedy pro with the updated 3861 movements.
Here were my thoughts:
I loved the hesalite and the effect it renders, but also liked the open case back and applied log of the sapphire.
I WANTED to love the bracelet on either model, but did not. Instead, I loved the nylon strap on the hesalite, but wasn't crazy about the leather strap of the sapphire.

So, am I crazy for possibly wanting to get both the speedy pro with the hesalite crystal and nylon strap AND also get the DSOTM vintage black?
It seems a bit impulsive but I feel the speedy pro could be a really good daily and the DSOTM be worn 1-2 times/week in as well, as they're both so unique.
Also, perhaps I should give the bracelet version a second look? I just think the speedy looks so great on black nylon, and wears so well. I also don't love the lack of an easy micro adjustment on the bracelet.

One of my concerns is some of the issues I've read with the 3861 chrono here on the forum.

No, you’re not crazy to like both watches, but I’d think hard about getting two similar on black nylon straps. If you did get both, you have one display case back (although the rotor blocks quite a bit of the movement) and one hesalite. Alternatively, you could order the Apollo 50th bracelet and put that on the 3861. There’s a thread a few weeks back showing how.

If for some reason the 3861 doesn’t work out, resale will likely be more on the bracelet.

If you do encounter the movement issue, it sounds like a quick fix that doesn’t reoccur.

Hope that’s helpful.

I would go pre-owned on a 1861 or the 1863 and save significantly on the difference between that watch and the new models. I would also source the DSOTM Vintage Black pre-owned as it is not as popular a model within the range and is reflected in the pre-owned prices. No issues with owning both as I see them as being very different. There is a boat load of straps and bracelets that are available that work well for both. Good luck and go for it.

It is, thanks. Just as a reminder though, the DSOTM vintage black comes on a tan calf skin strap.
Having said that, I like the idea of getting the 3861 on the Apollo 50th bracelet. That may not be a bad idea and will keep resale better should I decide to sell it down the road.
For daily wear, however, I really like it on the nylon. I just find Omega bracelets to be lacking in fit, feel, and overall aesthetics compared to Rolex, and that's such a shame, b/c I like the speedy more than either of my SS daytonas.

agree with many to go with the bracelet. IMHO, speedies are never meant to be ona bracelet (lookswise), but bracelet has better value retention AND you can always get extra nylon or leather straps from Omega at nominal fee or for free (at least this was the case when I got my PO).

Also agree on 1861. I like the boxing of 1861 better and 1861 is probably more risk-free, given cost and reliability (1861 is proven to work after all)
