Feral cat

Here's a feral cat taken with the new lens. This was hand-held which probably accounts for the slight drop off in sharpness.

Great shot, Adrian. He looks meaner than a junkyard dog.

My goodness- that cat looks more like a Pit Bull!

Superb pic. Can't see any drop off in sharpness. Looks pin sharp to me. Got any more of this moggy?

Here's two more I got. I've processed these in Nikon NX2, which I prefer to PS.

LOL, NICE.. I figured it was either D3 or D700. I went with the 700 and can't take enough pics, love that full frame sensor.

In all seriousness, its left eye looks infected.

Cat needs a vet asap.

He's feral, Pav. Getting him rounded up to see the vet may be a slight problem!

Allan's right, it would be one hell of a job getting him to a vet, that's if there is a vet where I am.

...and you didn't need to stop at the physician's office to stitch up the rips and tears first!

many local animal control places have "feral cat" traps that you can set out to catch em. Little guy does look like he needs help

Jen, the feral cats I know would say something like..."Man, do they think I'm stupid enough to go into that trap?"

I have 5 cats - they were all feral, but I tamed them enough when they were kittens to be able to deal with them. About three of them will let us pet them. One is pretty much a housecat now, but they are all 10 and 11 years old. They still give us a fit if we have to take one of them to the vet.

Nice shot. But why such a high ISO. I see plenty of noise. And judging by your shutter speed you had plenty of light to bump the ISO all the way down.

There is no way he could have bumped the ISO all the way down... not while shooting at 508 mm. MAYBE ISO 400, but that's still being optimistic.

As far as noise... I can't agree with you on that one. One spec of noise that's barely visible here and there is very very far away from "Plenty of noise".

He shot it at f/6.3 with a shutter speed of 1/3200 sec. There's plenty of wiggle room for the ISO. Maybe not all the way, ok. But we're only looking at an image that is 800 pixels wide. If it's noticeable here, imagine what the full size pic looks like.

It was hand-held, I wasn't going to risk camera shake and it was almost dusk.

I miss shooting with my old F80 SLR and Nikon and Sigma lenses.

Ilford films or Fuji Velvia...they were my favourites.

Now with Powershot compacts so cheap, claire won't let me buy a DSLR and try and find a bloody place that will develop and print mono or cross process transpaancy for a reasonable price!
