Aquanaut or Daytona for Wedding
I have a wedding coming up and the dress will be a tuxedo. What would be the preferred watch? My 5164 or Daytona (black dial in stainless). I have 5396g which would probably be the best match but since I am flying to this wedding, I would prefer to only carry one watch. The other two will let me wear a watch while flying, rehearsal dinner, and all the activities around the wedding. I don't feel comfortable leaving the other nice watch in the hotel room while I'm out.
Any suggestions? Thanks |

Definitely the Daytona. The Aquanaut is not really suitable for formal outfit based on my experience.

Tuxedo hmmm
Wear a dress watch. Probably a Calatrava would be my suggestion. Between those two - the PP. If the Daytona is a platinum then that instead. Don’t wear a two tone or SS panda to a wedding over a tux if you can avoid it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would go with the one that has the most sentimental value to you. I recently got married as well and I went with a watch that meant the most to me.
It's a special day, wear your number #1. |

None lol. Pick up a ss reverso if on a budget or a calatrava.
Edit, didnt see you have a 5396 as well. That will work fine. |

Tuxedo and 5164 or Daytona black doesn't work IMHO. What's the issue with wearing your 5396 during the flight and the activities around the wedding? |

Personally I’d never wear a watch with a tuxedo, it’s just not done IMO. If you must it would depend on if it’s your wedding or someone else’s.
If it’s your wedding wear what you like, it’s your day. If it’s someone else’s I’d try not to upstage someone’s special day, it always looks bad even if nobody says anything. |

Go for the 5396g unless you fly out to a tropical location that would ruin your rubber strap. In that case, just marry in Sit Paul McCartney style, wearing an Aqua on your wedding day…

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Just to clarify, this is not my wedding but a friends. I like to know the time and prefer looking at a watch versus taking out my phone. Thus the watch with a tux dilemma.
As for why not the 5396, I guess I don't like using it for anything outside of the dress occasion. Part of the reason it gets so limited use. Don't like that it is not waterproof, don't like that I sweat on the band. But the more comments I read, I might end up using it. |

Daytona will be too thick for the cuff. Aquanaut will be thinner and practical. Likewise 5396

I would definitely go with the 5396 for the wedding/reception. A black-dial, stainless, 5164 on a rubber strap? That's never gonna work with a tuxedo. But, I also would definitely wear the Daytona for everything else (travel, etc.). Yes, I'd bring both. (Guess I'm OK living on the edge.)
That said, if you're really that uncomfortable leaving one of your watches in the hotel room, I think the black Daytona would be the lesser of two "evils".

Are you in the wedding party or just a guest? Looking at a watch will be in very poor taste, like you need to be somewhere else, which having to fly to the wedding site only makes the poor taste worse. Take whichever one you you want to wear when not in the tux and leave it in your pocket at the wedding, participant, guest or otherwise. |

Are you saying in a half day affair it is poor taste to need to know the time? The wedding party is given a schedule, and being on time is pretty important. I also don't think it is the most prudent to leave a $50K watch dangling in your pocket either. |

If your watches are insured, definitely bring the 5396 for the wedding. And wear the 5164a for everything else. If you really want to bring only one, then the 5164a.
Enjoy the wedding!
