Will I ever Own a AP?

Being in TOronto,ON, Canada with no AP boutique, should I just believe owning one brand new from AD is merely a fantasy?
Closest to me would be a flight to NYC but I doubt they would sell to an outside guest.

I feel the same way.

Last time I inquired at AP Beverly Hills (closest store to me) they told me I would need to buy 2 lady AP’s one of which is Diamond encrusted for a total of $75,000 to be put on a list to buy a $20,000 watch. The kicker is, it was not guaranteed and the timeline would be close to 3 years.

Terrible

FWIW, I was allocated a RO this year from the lovely staff at the NYC boutique. It’s worth trying, I live in Maryland so not exactly local.

I’m from The GTA (Whitby). I travel several times a year and bought my first AP second hand. I developed a relationship with Clearwater just from being polite and passionate. They really are like a family, I’ve toured Clearwater and stopped in at a few boutiques. Clearwater put me in touch with AP any and I’ve stopped in several Tim’s. I was getting ready to order a 43mm and I stopped hearing from sales associate. I called the boutique for her and sadly she is no longer with AP. However, they had all my info and know my plan to check them out when I visit NYC in November. I can decide between the black face SCS or the blue titanium. About three weeks ago the boutique called and offered me the black face ss. I turned it down after making I wasn’t screwing myself. I need to see the two to choose. The are basically $50k CAD. They will also ship here direct. You would pay NY state tax, you’d pay the 13% provincial plus 6.1 excise. The point is, you do have a good shot. I’ve heard the bad stories but that wasn’t my experience and I’m no one special. If your serious give them a call. If you pass a boutique on vacation or business stop in.

That’s my Patel story. Last July I called the Toronto AD and asked to be put on the list for a 5164. They told me it’s about 4 years. I said ok, got save anyway, lol. I called last month to see if I was on the list. To my surprise, I was still there. The wouldn’t say when or how many orders are ahead of me but that’s a start. On the flip side when the latest submariner was release I ordered one from them. They were supposed to get back to me. We were ready to buy plus a OP for my girlfriend. No callbacks, : (

And don’t even get me started about the Rolex boutiques. We were in the NY boutique in November 2019. I expected to get shut down for a sub. But I was still hoping to see one there. No sub, no skydweller, no GMT’sand no 42mm yachtmaster in wig which is what I was really hoping to see. And they still gave attitude. Douches!

There is no shortage of attitude from retailers. I can understand a certain level of frustration on their end, working a 9 hour shift multiple days away with no merch to sell. And on top of it, hundreds walking in a day asking “any SS professional watch for sale?” It gets old. But they should be able to maintain a basic level of professionalism.

ADs are selling and making more than ever because every model (even gold) gets sold as it comes in. there shouldn't be any frustration on their end regarding that. i get that it's annoying to get asked about a daytona hundreds of times a week though

I bought mine at retail when it was still in production. They had every color dial available in several ADs. This was less than two years ago. It’s insane what has happened in the AP sphere since then. The watch I paid 24k for is now selling on C24 for over 50. Crazy times indeed, and I feel sorry for those trying to build a collection at this moment in time.

I have a very different experience to some of those mentioned in this thread. I bought my ref 15450st back in 2018 from an AD when they were a thing. Up until May of this year I'd never set foot into an AP boutique but I had to get a 1.5 link so went to one of the boutiques located in London.

I was assisted by a very friendly sales lady where we had a great conversation about the brand and football. I am Tottenham and she is Arsenal so we exchanged a bit if banter which was fun.

A month later I get the call to collect the link and saw the same lady. While there I asked if they had a ROC ref 26315st panda I could look at, which they didn't but she brought out ref 26331st that was waiting to be collected after servicing. As I expected, it was too big for me.

Just before leaving I cheekily asked her if I could be put on waiting list for the ref 26315st and to my surprise she fired up her Ipad and did whatever she had to do and now I am officially in line for one. She did say though "please be patient, it might take a while"
