Scratched my new Daytona while trying out rubber strap

I switched it back onto the bracelet but during the change I scratched the lugs a bit. May I ask if RSC will polish this when doing service? Do I need to add money for a polishing if service under warranty period?

Warranty does not extend to a polish. Furthermore, a polish is an option in connection with a service.

If it’s a obvious mark, I bet Rolex will spot polish it for free with serving. Next time, tape up the lugs.

Always tape the lugs

Having said that - I couldn’t get get the bracelet off yesterday. Well one side anyway. Last year was getting ready to put my seiko skx in the bin & just buy a new one as I struggled to change a broken rubber strap. No idea how these guys seem to swap straps/ bracelets/ natos at the drop off a hat

I always duct tape the lugs. Has saved me from many scratches…

A polish is included with a full RSC service when due, average time now every 8-10 year depending on use, and scratches are not covered by warranty on any Rolex product.

A polish is a free option during the service (in as much as you pay the same whether you want it polished or not).

If the scratch is just on the back of the lug just leave it 'till then

How significant are the marks and where are they? Do you have pictures of it?

It will give some character to your heirloom piece, it looks like you raced in the Daytona 500 now.

Bummer, but it’s just a scratch which can be removed via polish at time of service.

Changing straps it worthwhile, but it’s important to use the right tools and tape the lugs to be extra careful. Technique is also important. There are some good videos on YouTube that show good ways to position the watch and bracelet when making changes.

Don’t let this experience scare you from changes

Yea, if it’s on the back of the lugs, who cares? It’s very common when spring bars pop out with untaped lugs.

This! (And this is why I asked about the location)

The back of my lugs are scratched to hell. The expert who refinished the watch intentionally did not polish this area much, as it would entail removing metal from an area where you want to keep a sharp point.

FYI, I have done tutorials on this before years back. Use blue painters tape or even plastic clear scotch tape to tape off your lugs. You’re trying to prevent that dreaded springbar slip and skipping across the back of your lugs. God for bid it moves forward and skips across the front of your lugs. That is significantly worse and will make you feel sick inside. Expect the best but prepare for the worst when changing straps because stupid stuff happens.

If it is on the back of lugs, who cares? Just enjoy the watch; almost every single imperfection we see can only be seen by us.

Blue painters tape and spring bar pliers work best; I use Bergeron 6825; see link fo a pic. Pricy tool but well worth it for me.

I'd love to be able to easily swap bands but I failed trying to get a Rubber B on my Milguass and stressed myself out in the process.

I bought a decent tool too but I'm so not gifted in this stuff for the very reason the OP made this thread.
