"Smash and Grab"

I have been reading a lot about this lately regarding luxury malls and stores. It seems Louis Vuitton is having the worst luck. Have any Rolex ADs been affected? I suppose if 99% of the watches are always in the vault in back, it's just empty display cases.

The pillows now go for above list price. Very valuable commodity to smash and grab.

Seriously though, I'm sure the multi brand AD's with omegas are more worried. Rolex only boutique only has to be worried about safety of staff or mobs that like display signs.

Most of the watches AD receive these days get sold in a matter of hours or days, a Rolex dealership would be the last place I would target if I were a thief.

Saw a Rolex dust cloth go for $500 on eBay so maybe they could start to target those things until Rolexeseses arrive.

A lot easier to steal a handbag that’s out on a shelf or a moncler jacket than it is to steal a watch locked in a case. If the goal is to be in and out, then even trying to break the glass would take too long. Also lots of stores still use the buzz in system, whereas larger stores like department stores can’t do.

As it is, Rolex stores devoid of stock aren't the most attractive targets for looting by these reprobates.

Just imagine Rolex sold trainers (sneakers), oh boy.

Can you imagine what the ringleader will do to his colleagues when he discovers they’ve returned with a sack full of worthless display pieces without movements?

It's common place these days. Several jewelry stores hit the past two weeks around the Bay.

I could envision some dumb thief’s trying to rob a Rolex store and then smashing the empty cases on their way out with nothing anyways.

All the valuable jewelry ( including Rolexes) is put in safes.

They caught two females from the smash and grab at the grove in LA. Very lovely things for young women to be doing!

All 3 of the Rolex ADs that I've dealt with in the last 8 years have been robbed. Some multiple times. 1 of them has closed down now, not due to a robbery but retirement.

Much more common than you think.

If they smash and grab a Rolex AD, all they will get is a fistful of air.

Hope they throw the book at them -have to make examples out of some of these looters or this is just going to continue until someone gets killed!

They do need to be prosecuted harshly, i.e; burglary, conspiracy and if proven working / coordinating with a larger group or selling stolen goods over the internet, the case should be referred to a United States Attorney for federal charges. I doubt that will happen and if Gascon has his way, he'll probably let them go with a sternly worded letter and court probation.

It's not an entirely new phenomenon. I vividly remember when I was in college in 1997, four men executed a smash-and-grab robbery at Tivol Jewelers on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, getting away with what was at the time $2.5 million in merchandise. Tivol was and currently is both a Rolex and Patek AD.

Last time I was there they had uniformed police officers on duty in the store. That is actually pretty common with AD's in larger cities I have found. It gives me a level of comfort when I visit, personally.

If someone is organizing these big mobs (40-80) people to do things like this it should be prosecuted as domestic terrorism. Goes way beyond shoplifting.

Rolex AD's are only subject to the smash part, there is nothing to grab
