Am I seeing things?

These Casios modified to look like an AP. Is this really a thing? If so WHY?

Yes, it's a simple aftermarket kit you can buy which comprises of a metal bezel (complete with AP-style screws) and an AP-esque bracelet. It's known as the "Casioak" mod.

They aren't designed to fool anyone into thinking it's an AP as the dial is completely unchanged G-Shock.

So from a distance it looks like an AP?

I guess because they're fun, affordable, easy to obtain and keep excellent time.

Poor man's AP. I get more compliments on this than my Rolex(s).

Yes, from about 30 feet away and if you squint a bit.

I wear mine to the gym and sometime for running, so don't have to worry about robbery.

Would suck to get robbed then for them to realize it isn’t an AP and then getting a beating because of it .

I swapped a few put and the attention to detail in the case and bracelet is incredible for the 120 price point.

For those that have one as well as a RO, I’m very curious your thoughts how the two bracelets are compared to each other.

Visually from pictures they look similar….

Not easy to see the difference from afar, say 5 meters away, and especially if you have not owned an RO before.

Once you go near, it is very obvious because it is thicker, you can see the casio dial, the sides of the case, inconsistancy of the links. Not to mention if you put your hands on it. Of course there is no logo on the clasp.

It is a fun bracelet. For those who got the rubber strap, it is also fun and looks good from afar. It would not be mistaken for the real thing for those who know, and for those who do not, it does not matter anyway.
