New OP 41 and time keeping

Recently got the new OP 41 from an AD.
Left in my drawer without wearing for 2wks and is now 5hrs behind.

Is that normal? Am I supposed to do something?

Ps: noob rolex owner.

Its not 5 hours behind its approx 12 days behind. It has a 70 hour power reserve.

Wind it about 40 or so times give it a quick shake if it doesn't start up and then wear it. Should you be moderately active it will never stop and keep time +/- 2 seconds but YMMV.

Thanks for the reply.
Shouldn't had been completely stopped if I didn't wear for 2wks?
You think it started again as soon as I picked up and I just didn't notice?

Yeah, sometimes just moving a self-winding watch gets it started. Turns the rotor (a weight that rotates and winds the mainspring)

Yes. It didn't stop and wait for you to pick it back up. Wind it 40 or so times and wear that thing!

Oh and post a picture. We like pictures.

Come on! Really? You expect a mechanical watch to run for 2 weeks? There are some, but they are in another league! Get Lange 31 if you want a watch to run for a month but then you will have to spare close to 200 k for it. Or some of JL mechanical wonders!

Who cares whether not not an OP keeps time?

If allowed, most would buy the display models….lol

There's an instruction manual in the box.

Sounds like the guy in the Omega section, who bought a new Speedmaster, which stopped working after a couple of days.

He was asked if he’d wound it………..he didn’t know it was a hand wind watch.

But congratulations to the OP on the new OP

I’m a bit confused as you’ve been here since Sept 2016 and not familiar with a mechanical watch’s operation?

So, it sounds, from what you're saying, like the OP (who just posted about his OP) is five years behind?

Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.

I can actually understand that. Not a ton of new hand wind watches being made out there.

Congrats on your new Rolex!

The Rolex you have does not use any sort of a battery or light to operate the watch. Instead, it relies on the movements from your wrist (or from a machine that mimics this, called a watch winder). After it comes off your wrist, the power reserve is finite, and the watch will continue to run for up to about 3 days depending on how 'charged' (wound) it is.

When you picked up the watch, the movement of picking it up/moving it around caused the watch to begin running again, and so when you looked at it, it appeared like it had lost 5 hours. However, the watch stopped running about 3 days into being into the drawer.

So, after you do not wear the watch for more than about 3 days, you will have to reset the time each time you decide to wear it. If you do not like this, you can either buy a watch winder, manually wind the crown every 2-ish days, or wear the watch more often.
