Rolex Submariner 1980's

suspect a scam - 0 seller feedback but provides reasonable photo's which is unusual for someone not experienced on selling on ebay especially for a watch (stolen), text seems to be cut and pasted from somewhere else as too flowery ie "The Triplock winding crown, is a triple sealing device, is protected by seamless shoulders cut in steel Oyster case".

Model no given as R551300/30/B93150007, why not just say 5513, if you owned the watch you would surely know that?? Its like he does'nt know his "product" at all.

I don't believe that is a box that was used in 1985, its way older looking than mine from 1984.

anyone else?

Might need to see some more photos on this one, a side view of the bracelet and of course the usual giveaway the clasp :-) I'm sure LC would like to see more too

Hi Mike, the box depicted is the first generation 1980's box and could be correct for the watch. The box that replaced it looks the same, except the leather grain pattern is much smaller and less pronounced. The last box used from the very late 80's is the small green box with the green, vinyl pillow that is notorious for flaking. These boxes were used in the USA, and may not apply to other countries.

Cheers.

thanks John, yes must be a non Oz thing my box from 1984 was rectangular, timber in the lid and velvet in the base with an insert with two cutouts for the band, a lot more "modern" looking than this one....still learning!!

Sounds like one of the boxes used outside the USA.

The two boxes I described in my previous post, from the the early to mid-eighties, were manufactured for Rolex in the USA by Bufkor, and are marked appropriately underneath the center cuff.

I think more pictures are needed of the watch before I can say one way or another that this one is okay or not.

To answer the question about 5513, I don't think everyone knows that. Some would simply know it as a Submariner.
For example, the latest Porsche 911 is not actually a 911. It's a 997.

At any rate, I can't call this bogus without further evidence.
