Thoughts on 1950-ish Perpetual w/French case?
I've long had a gascination with bubblebacks, and relatively (year or so ago) learned Rolex - along with others of course - would at times in the postwar years import dials, mvm'ts. etc, and have PM cases built in the country they were to be marketed in, France to the best of my knowledge being one of the more prominently known for this.
The one in the following link sold some time ago from what I understand but was hoping the vintage experts here might lend an opinion on both the example watch spoken of and if there is anything glaring the speaker (I assume dealer & at the time owner) misses or is incorrect about, or is he primarily spot on? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mk86PhcuM0 As always I thank my fellow WIS folks out there in advance for educating me on the quirky ones! |

Wow lovely. 34mm pre-Oyster in full 18K and with a beautiful OCC dial, watch looks new. And BEAUTIFUL. I am jealous of the man in the video
Happy Hols everyone |

I'm not sure that it is pre-Oyster; I was under the impressions/assumption that many of these export pieces lacked the Oyster moniker in part because the cases were outsourced and thus might or would get the push/pull style crown shown in the video, vs. the screw-down oyster case type - if anyone knows for sure either way; I'm happy to be corrected or informed further!

Hello guys,
I own a similar watch than the sown in the video. i inherated it a few month ago. It has a 630 movement, a Perpetual waffle dial (Non oyster), but the case seems not to be made by rolex as there is no Rolex serial number stamped in the internal side of the case back. It has the 18k gold french eagle hallmark in it and another mark that seems to be the maker mark stapmed in the case. It seems that the movement has been adapted to the case using a copper ring. The number in the outer side of the case back is 9643...Very similar to the 9634 number of the watch show in the video. here i attach some images. I am still researching the origin of the origin of this watch. Regards bracelet.jpg dial2_2.jpg eagle.jpg IMG-3248.jpg IMG-3309 (1).jpg lateral.jpg |
