Bond NATO on Sub - 2022 prediction?

If Rolex sells the Sub No Date with the option with black and double grey strip strap, would that receive positive or negative review? That particular pattern of Nato was thought of as the original bond NATO, but in fact it was black and white, it was just the film quality was so bad people thought it was grey. But has Omega completely taken over the James Bond connection? Will it feel weird in 2022 to have Rolex sell a bond nato officially? or does it now only seem appropriate on an Omega?

Hard to say. Easier to say Rolex will never do this. That’s what they have Tudor for.

I was wondering. How long is the James Bond franchise and Omega contract for?

I’m a huge enthusiast of the submariner. With that said I think the only subs that are at home on a NATO are the 6538 big crowns and the 5517 mil sub that had the fixed spring bars. All of the vintage ones can pull it off but I feel like the modern references case backs are too big to sit well on a NATO. I’ve tried it with my 114060 and wasn’t too jazzed. I think with the position Rolex has in the watch world offering a NATO would be kind of below them. That’s what they have Tudor for now

It will never ever be done. Never ever. Plus, current reference sub looks ridiculous on a NATO.

There isn’t really a need. Anyone with a sub can buy a nato for 10 bucks. I don’t think they need to enforce any old bond references to sell them.

One can argue that Rolex needs to change nothing and it would still sell like hot cakes for the next half decade.

Never ever going to happen.

I think the question is whether nor not we’ll see a Submariner with an Oysterflex bracelet.

Here’s my omega on the so called bond nato and the 5 digit digit sub on black nato.

To be clear, I meant a Rolex sport model at Retail (i.e., not a Mil-Sub) on a nato.

I can imagine Rolex relentlessly mocked here for doing that.

Looks great! NATO aesthetic works well on 12 series versus the 11. The better lug taper makes that possible.

It would be a PATHETIC Review. If they ever loose their way like Omega has...it will be a sad day.

Unless you are "in the water" Nato straps are embarrassing and usually wore by wrists that are too small to wear the watch on a bracelet. And usually it makes it look like they have a childs wrist.

What a horrible way to cheapen a watch.

A Sub will never be offered on a nato from Rolex.

No. Rolex is all about maintaining a simple lineup on the professional watches...I don't see them adding complexity to the lineup with new straps especially when they can sell everything they have. I even think they will withhold any significant new releases at this point until they need them to juice sales.

It does appear that the previous Submariner and the new 41 have definitely "out grown" many many wrists...

I think and I hope they will never do. I like the look of a Submariner on a Nato strap but at the end it’s not good as there is an unbalance between the heavy case and very thin and light strap. Finally nato strap looks good on 4 and 5 digits but it looks quite bad on 6 digits due to the very large case.

I don’t think the 6 digits looks good on anything besides the factory bracelets, YMMV

I think the Sub looks much better with the bracelet by far….
But also like it with NATOs…
