Patek 5235G

I know this is the Patek discussion thread…would you rather own a WG oysterflex Daytona or a 5235G? Is the PM Daytona currently overvalued? Is the 5235 currently under appreciated? I have never handled a 5235 but it looks amazing in every photo I have seen and is a great size for modern watch.

5235 for sure, it is a far more interesting watch. I prefer the R version personally.

I own the Daytona you are talking about, is a very nice watch but I haven't worn it for a while. I can imagine myself wearing the 5235 much more often if I had it.

I own the 5235r and 3 modern Daytonas. I’d definitely go with the 5235. Far more interesting, unique, rare, and beautiful timepiece. Also agree the R is preferable. The vertical grained, two-toned dial is absolutely stunning on the R.

The Advanced Research 31-260 micro rotor caliber is worth the price of admission, by itself. It’s the most impressive automatic movement Patek makes under $100k.

Put me in the 5235 boat as well. I love the Daytona but I feel like it's not even in the same ballpark as the 5235. I was able to see one in person at my AD recently and the watch and dial are beautiful... not to mention the view from the back was just insane.

Rolex doesn't make a regulator and the movement of the 5235 by itself makes it quite special. IMHO Rolex Daytona prices are inflated by a lot. But that is just part of the watch price craziness today.

If you want to talk versatility as a daily wearer then of course the Daytona especially on the oysterflex.

However, I would prefer 5235 for sure. It's definitely under appreciated. I like the R version more however. The dial looks amazing with the rose gold case.

Patek 5235G

Sport to dress, not equal, nothing to compare but price. Just like compare cheese vs steak, each one gives different taste, both well

I assume a 5235 can be worn several days per week and last a lifetime. I have never owned Patek but have a lifestyle/profession that does not put watches under any stress. The most trauma would be to have the watch on my wrist under a shirt sleeve with coat in the rain or with coat and gloves brushing snow off my car. I appreciate that Daytona on oysterflex is sport watch and 5235 is dress watch but am I correct in assuming a Patek would be okay and no different than PM Rolex for normal lifestyle?

5235 is fairly versatile imho. Comfortable under a suit, tuxedo as well as a T-shirt, shorts and loafers.
Depends on your personal style but I think it can be dressed up and down a little more than the oyster flex. If you like the more casual look the Daytona can’t go wrong. Not to mention no concerns about getting the strap wet etc.
if you already have another sports watch 5235R is a great alternative for different occasions.

A lot of forum members own both Rolex and Patek. Most will agree that Patek watches are a bit more delicate than Rolex. If you drop a Patek and a Rolex onto the pavement, there is greater likelihood of a Patek having problems and a higher repair bill. But for everyday wear in an office setting, Patek watches are fine. Others may say don't wear Patek during golfing as they are not as shock resistant as a Rolex.
