Do. Not. Sell.
Way too much history. I think you’d have serious regrets

DO NOT SELL! Diving function VS GMT function - which one do you use daily? Sub is one hell of a watch too. Be patient, add it when you have enough savings.

I've always worn a Submariner and considered myself a "one watch guy" until last year.

I had wanted a 126710 BLRO for a long time and considered selling my Sub to help fund it. Instead, I bought it and kept both.

I wore the GMT and kept the Sub on the watch winder for about 6 weeks. Now, I'm rotating between the two of them and kind of have a new appreciation for the Sub and really enjoy some of their differences.

My advice - keep the GMT and buy the Sub.

Keep the 16710 and add the Sub. Perfect 1-2 combo!

Never, ever sell it with that much history. You’ll regret it with agony thinking of all it’s been through with you. You might someday find another, but it will never be that one. Don’t be surprised if you do get the Sub and don’t love it as much as the GMT.

Keep the 16710. If you can swing it then add a Sub later.
That would be a great combination to have.

It's there a rule that you should never trade a GMT for a Sub? In all seriousness, though, your GMT is such an awesome, cool watch -- I wouldn't trade it. Find a way to add the Sub you want.

Agreed 100%. Never give that bad boy up. Never.

Now, if you're interested in the new sub, full speed ahead...it's a great watch. But as a companion, not a replacement.

The GMT Master was the very first Rolex I ever wanted, and that was when I was in High School.
I now own a Sub and a Pepsi 16710 and I wear that Pepsi everyday and barely even touch the Sub.

KEEP THE GMT because it is your first Rolex, and it is a good watch.
Few people can say that their very first Rolex was a GMT Master, and they still have it.
Buy yourself a Sub if you really want one.

I totally agree that you keep the GMT and add a Submariner. I think you'd be very happy with these two.

These days any reference is hard to come by, so it will be tough for anyone to recommend selling a piece (myself included). Like most (if not all) of the previous responses, I would say keep the GMT, and add the submariner. Give it a year, then see if you really like the submariner more, and if you are willing to sell the GMT. Because once you sell it, getting it back wont be cheap.

Keep your GMT, you will regret selling it everyday considering the history you have with it.

Hi all of you,
Thank you so much for your wise insights!! You’re so right! Of course I can’t sell my GMT and flush all my memories down the toilet. The GMT will stay and hopefully I can add a Sub in the future.
Cheers, Mike

Don’t let the dopamine hit kill decades of experience with your gmt. The purchase will feel good for a month, 2 tops and then it wears off. This is just how it works. The more time you spend thinking and researching, the more dissatisfied you will be with your current gmt. This is simply the hedonic treadmill and how we are built. The 5 digit gmt is the most versatile watch Rolex ever made, period. Add the new watch you want, don’t unload what you have.

Submarine will win. I love my GMT but it’s no match for a torpedo.

If at all possible, I’d recommend that you add the Sub. Own both for a while and see if you really don’t wear or miss the GMT before you sell it.
I agree with brandea, 100%

Keep the GMT and get a sub, that’s what I’m going to do. It’s going to be the best combo to own.
I just took my 1989 16710 coke to the RSC in Los Angeles a couple of days ago and can’t wait to get it back.
