Waiting for a sub isn't imo a smart move if you want to wear the watch now. It's like the starter Rolex. Everyone wants one.

Crazy advice. Prices are starting to fall back down to normal. The crazy COVID years are coming to an end. Why pay nearly double for less? The flipper gets your purchase history, there are no guarantees the watch is authentic or has not been reported stolen.

'any value will stay there more or less' - Nonsense, often repeated, but nonsense. If you are paying nearly double then you will lose compared to paying RRP at an AD. Got to consider a wider timeframe than the last couple of years. No guarantee at all that a Rolex purchased today, during a bubble, will be worth more in 5 years. When watches are available at ADs people are not going to be paying double for a second hand watch.

Register your interest with you local ADs. Only pay the inflated bubble price if you have to have it today, bearing in mind prices are falling. And we may return to ADs having watches to sell again, sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure the subs will drop much at all. It's at 15 now? Another 20% drop is then at 10.5k. I don't think it will drop that far. So getting in at 15 is worth more than waiting 2 years.

Enjoy the 58 and Speedy and be patient with the ADs. It seems market is changing a bit and people are getting watches from ADs with a shorter wait than before.

They make mothers day for the sole purpose of buying jewelry to move up on the ADs list... its this Sunday. Get mom something and maybe you'll move up the list. win! win!

BB58, Speedmaster, Submariner and Explorer would be a very good collection. Good luck.

What do you guys think about me going for a low-mileage 14060M Sub? Something really appealing about the smaller case, drilled lugs, and aluminum bezel insert.

Excellent cool factor, but I find it hard to get over the rickety bracelet and clasp.

I was in exactly the same situation as you! I happened to work up a pretty good relationship with my local AD and I had my Sub within a few months so you never know!

You will probably have better chances at a Rolex-specific boutique. I found the experience to be far better than with the usual jewelry store or multi-brand watch retailer. I also learned that they allocate a certain percentage of their arrivals to brand new “aspirational” buyers who have not purchased a Rolex before. At least that’s how it is at mine, but it sounds like Rolex is encouraging this as well.

I’d also recommend visiting every so often. Not to bug them but just to have a chat, say hi, etc. You want to be on their mind when they receive the one that you want.

That's what I ended up doing after being laughed out of my first visit to an AD... But now I'm happy I went that route. I prefer it to the 6 digit versions. Much more subtle in every regard. Very comfortable and easy to wear as a daily. Which is what I wanted; I'm not a collector.

It sounds to me that you have a good handle on the situation or better still, predicament.

By any chance did you acquire the BB and Omega at these ADs? If so, that should give you at least some purchase history. If not, while anything is possible, I seriously doubt you’ll get SS pieces so soon. An easier proposition would be a TT of either model. Would you consider a TT?

Consider the ref. 214270. It’s readily available and at a price point that isn’t insane (ie its near what it retailed for). Since it’s discontinued, your only option is to go grey, so won’t have to deal with the mind games of paying above MSRP — its grey market price is its only price. The matte dial and case size are sublime.

I tried a few 5 digit Subs and SDs on and the bracelets kind of put me off.

If you are near an AD that does used Rolex, IMHO it is definitely good to try one on before buying as the bracelet/clasp is very different from the current Oyster/Glidelock, and I think Glidelock is one of the best parts of the current Sub.

I will agree with others here, OP. You're doing alright. Patience is a virtue and is rewarded, eventually. Be specific about what you want from the ADs and politely follow up on it. Time will come that you will get the call and it may well be sooner than you anticipate. In the meantime you're in the good company of your BB and Speedy. All is well

I agree. You'll be "friend-zoned" if you try too hard. I'd visit initially but call/email/text thereafter.

This a good point- I don’t want to be annoying, but I do want to stay on the radar.

I have seriously considered this and am still thinking about it. Tried a 39mm on and really liked it. I realize it's not the traditional size, but 39mm does seem to be a sweet spot for me with a 7 inch wrist.
