Recs on 3 row SUV.

My wife says she’s done with minivans. She’s had 3 Sienna Limiteds over the last 15 years and would like to move to an SUV but still wants 3 rows. The 3rd row will mostly be down but would like it on the few occasions for the extra seating. She thought she wanted the GX 460 but I haven’t read great reviews. She wants a nice interior and a quiet ride. Wont be towing anything with it. She puts about 20k miles a year on it so reliability is important also. Budget about 80k. Would love some recommendations on the new models out now. Thanks!

We've had an Infiniti QX60 for a few years now; no complaints and I like the flexibility of the 3rd row seats, which we mostly leave down. Good cargo room and we enjoy it as our people mover.

We also really like the look of the Genesis GV80 and when it's time to upgrade, we'll probably go to that line.

Recs on 3 row SUV.

I don’t know anything about new models for this year. However, I’ve heard quite good things about the expedition xl and the suburban/Tahoe xl.

I have a buddy that just bought a gx460 and it’s not nearly the size of the expedition or suburban. So I seriously question any amount of comfort in the third row.

Personally if I was in that market I’d probably go suburban or Tahoe. Ford has way too many problems with their electronics. I say this as a Ford guy.

The Subaru ascent was a strong candidate and the Highlander as well. Of the two, I preferred the Ascent. Ended up with an outback (as wife felt we did not need 3 rows-and likely don't as we only have 2 kids).

The GX has a great ride and is arguably the most reliable SUV on the road. It gets bad reviews because it’s still pretty much the same old school body on frame SUV that it was 12 years ago. The recent update fixed a lot of the interior touchpad issues. If you are looking for comfort and reliability at a decent price, its hard to beat. It will last 20 years easy.

For 3 rows, a minivan will always be a better option.

The new Kia Carnival could be a compromise? Less minivan looks but all the utility and space.

There’s only one ……… Land Cruiser

Statistically proven to be the most durable, trouble free and longest lasting vehicle on the road today. Buy a low mile 2021 and your kids drive can it to your funeral.

Lol. Love it. We are pretty loyal to Toyota. I’ve driven Tundras my whole adult life. I’ll transition to a Land Cruiser when I stop working for sure.

We have a Lexus LX 570 that can seat up to 8 and an Audi Q see that seats up to seven. I recommend hem both. I ordered a new Range Rover that has a third row. You need to get the long wheel base model

I think $80k gets you a $55k Highlander Platinum.

Until my 2018 Navigator, the previous have been great. I don't know if I got a lemon but it spent too much time in the shop. When I have it, its awesome. My friend has a 2020 and has had no problems.

We really liked a friend’s Model X. For SUVs, EVs make complete sense and with EVs, Tesla’s make more sense than the competition with the longer range and access to superchargers.

Had a Yukon XL for 18 years. Now have the Lexus GX460. GX is not as big and the 3rd row is meant for kids, but the reliability and comfort can't be beat. The Lexus LX570 is even better, but it's not in the $80k price range. Both the GX and LX are very thirsty though.

I have a Gen 2 4Runner and a 2011 Sequoia. With 2 small kids, I'd go for a Sequoia over the Land Cruiser. I don't go overlanding, but I need to carry kids, strollers, groceries, ice chests, tackle boxes, rods, reels, rifle cases, furniture, and other large items. The 4runner and Land Cruiser are just a little narrower and the 3rd row is awkward for seating. The new Capstone edition of the Sequoia has lots of creature comforts, and the current editions have an optional locking diff for the 4wd models. Over the last 11 years of ownership, the 5.7L v8 engine has been exceptionally reliable. I suspect the successor is even better. The mostly costly maintenance I've had with the Sequoia is replacing rotors and drums.

Alright there are some decent recommendations on here but as a GX owner whose looking for something else myself let me say the GX is a great overall vehicle. However, the front seating position is trash and can kill your back and the third row isn’t fit for stuffed animals. Similar story in the LC/LX. Also the new sequoia, though nice, has a much worse third row than the prior due to room needed for battery packs and still having a solid axle. Plus the new 3.5TT has not proven itself to be the bulletproof beast of the 4.6 and 5.7 variety. As we are in similar shoes, I have to follow the saying that there’s no replacement for displacement . So it’s pretty simple. If you actually want a vehicle that has a USABLE third row (most aren’t) you’re basically looking at a Yukon/Tahoe/Escalade/Suburban/Expedition/Navigator and maybe an Armada/QX80(which are extremely reliable). Those are the choices. Everything else will leave someone pissed the second you load up for a family vacation or want to have someone in the third row and actually carry stuff at the same time. My debate right now is do I go for that family truckster or say screw it, get something I really love, and just rent one of those busses when we road-trip

We're about to be a family of 5.
We have a Tesla X for everyday around town type driving and a Tahoe for trips.

X7 or GLS if you want comfort, defender 130 if you want to be cool, sequoia capstone if you want something made in Texas.

How often are you using the 3rd row? If daily then a minivan is still your best friend. If it’s just for occasion then like others previously stated GLS, X7, Escalade, etc are great choices.

We have a limited 2021 4 runner with 3 rows. Pretty small in the back but easy for kids. Gas mileage is horrendous but it’s reliable.

The new 2022 sequoia is impressive. A lot of room, captains seats, and in a normal price range for that type of suv, 60k ish nicely loaded.

If we were to look at a larger suv with 3 rows, the new sequoia is at the top of the list along with the Lexus.

We had an Infinity QX60 for a few years and loved it. The vehicle and service from Infinity was great. The only reason I traded it was we have more need for a truck right now, but we do miss that third row seating!
