Rolex and co are closing in January...

Just had a conversation with an insider. He told me that flippers will be happy because they are closing the manufacture this January (negociation with the Canton about the Energy Crisis management).

And if Rolex does it... the others are following. It was only a rumor. Now it is official but not communicated...

I hope the energy crisis will not be as terrible as prophetised and we can revert.

I suspect that it does not bother Rolex as the market is slowing a lot...

I live in Geneva... When I say insider I mean... real insider (and not an SA in a Rolex boutique)... :)

What do you mean the market is slowing “a lot”? I think Rolex has no “slowing market” AT ALL. You must be referring to the grey market, which is good right? Lower secondary market prices is good for all, unless you are flipping…! Rolex could pass on their energy price rise (seen 5% rises globally already), or push ADs to take the margin hit. People would still buy; those who genuinely buy don’t care about a slowing secondary market.

Not sure there is any truth in this at all.

If I’m not mistaken, January has always been a quiet month in the Swiss watch industry? Most of them are off following new year holidays and the manufacturers tend to slowly ramp up production towards the 1st of February before resuming normal production.

Greys and backpackers are getting desperate I see. Maybe you should've unloaded your inventory months ago when the signs were there. This winter is going to be long and cold for some.

It’s possible. Price of gas in Europe is out of control, I would not be surprised if it’s true.

I called my former Geneve chef Hans who runs the Rolex cafeteria. He said their Q1 order of schnitzel, liverwurst and mackerel egg spread was made same as always so he doubts they’ll be closed or it’ll spoil.

Exact!

That is why closing in January is, in reality, not that horrible.

But I suspect that distressed greys (most of them) will try to exploite that message (Low supply) like they did after the April holidays (War is almost over, China will reopen, slow April is normal) and after the summer holidays (China will reopen, etc).

It will not hold but may slow the drop temporarily.

WHAT DROP??? Rolex will sell as many watches as ever! Assuming we believe that Rolex take a year to make a watch (lol), January closing wouldn’t have any impact on sale supply until next year.

The war is no where near over, and even if if it was over so what? Russia opens gas supplies and western brands return straight away? Nonsense!

You are the only one trying to exploit a message of low supply.

You have an agenda or want attention.

I am speaking about energy... I believe you are not aware of what is happening here... Decisions have been made by the Federal authorities. Now they are being implemented by the Cantons which means negociations with high consumers of energy which includes manufactures and Hans' stand (BTW, this is not the type of food we eat around here ).

They are coordinating (with the different industries/big users) depending of the usage which is pragmatic, forward thinking for politians, isn't it?

Last week, we got a note from my kids' school (young age). Among lowering temperature in classes, and massively lowering temperature in sport infrastructures, they will restrict the usage of... hot water!

For f*cks sake, this again?

Let me guess, your "insider" read an internal email about it...

And it looked like this:

If there was an energy problem, why would Rolex order so much schnitzel, liverwurst and mackerel egg spread for January 2023 - April 2023. Rolex refrigerators are also designed to run on 50,000,000 Oysterquartz batteries. And Rolex has enough.

In Europe, wholesale gas prices are going down again, with further to fall.

Same with Rolex grey.

In fairness, Rolex has always closed down in Dec and Jan for the holidays.

Not likely to be any different this year.

Just wanted to share something from an insider. But I get it Mr. Troll. Next time, I get info from someone I trust (family, friend and neighboor) working for the industry I will keep it for myself.

Take care.

Name him or her and their position then if you are that confident it is "official" as you stated.

Are you sure you didn't misunderstand them talking about the yearly holiday corporate closing?
