Great info, helped me identify mine as a transitional pre tiger 79260 marked Rolex but with a prince dial.

Does anybody know if the 79260 Oyster Date came available with a black dial with white sub dials? I see silver sub dials a lot, but not sure if I've seen any with white.

Many of these watches had part swaps. I did my dial swap years ago with Vanessa who was a member here (I kept my original silver tapestry dial). Rolex NYC used to also offer dial swaps during maintenance visits.

Some folks also added Rolex branded case backs & crowns. Anything to increase their value.

Not that it matters much but do you have the original paperwork that came w/ it? Starting serial letters with the case and clasp can help.

Sorry to bump this up, but I think this is a fabulous thread on a fabulous watch (or series of watches) that usually get overlooked.

I am a previous owner of a pre-tiger transitional 79260, and looking to get back into one. However I noticed that prices have gone way up, but now they are not too far from the big blocks.

Is it worth paying a little extra for a big block 791x0 over a 792x0? I know the physical differences, but it seems like they (the big blocks) became the better buy.

The Big Blocks have more Rolex dna. Uniquely they were also the thickest case Rolex produced until the DeepSea.

But, the Small Blocks are much more comfortable to wear.

Owned both and never noticed any difference in comfort between the two.

I am hearing conflicting opinions though. I have had the 79260 and I agree it was comfortable, but many are saying the slight thicker case on the 791x0 is not that noticeable at all. I believe it is 14mm vs. 14.5mm. I

Have a 7.25” wrist and find the 79180 big block very comfortable. Best to try one on and decide.

Sporting a 6.3" wrist, but hoping for the best since a 79260 fit me nicely. Still have not found "the one" but I am actively looking for a big block

I always found my Big Block more comfortable on a nato than the bracelet.

Here is a good article on the Big Block. I have a 79270 Tiger on a nato and it is the only watch I own that I can wear like I don't give a damn.

I believe the 7926 series are known as the small blocks, their cases are more oval and less slab sided. Great looking watch you have, I have the 79260 pre tiger.

I have a 7926 series in small block with OYSTERDATE. Most of the small block dial is PRINCE DATE. This one is rare since the dial is considered albino

I've seen a couple examples in this thread of silver dials turning pink. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm considering picking up a silver dial but I'm concerned of this issue. Thanks in advance.

No pink on mine, but it should be more sought after if it indeed turn pink.

Tudor needs to re-release an updated version of these chronographs…they would be a huge hit!

Very nice. I noticed you opted for the PRINCE DATE, I was going for the OYSTERDATE instead.

Yes I would’ve preferred oysterdate but they tend to be the big blocks, main thing for me was Rolex signed

This thread is epci, an invaluable source of information for big and small blocks. I recently purchased this from eBay for around 5700 including taxes and fees. Currently at ebay's authentication center and should be on my wrist within a week. Will sadly need to sell my speedmaster to fund the purchase but figured the price was right and I can get back into a speedy in the future when funds become available. Hopefully my 7inch wrist can pull it off.

Here's mine. Purchased in 2000.
Still wear it semi-regularly.
