An old dog and a new trick...

Subs and Sea Dwellers have always been my favorite models...

And for the last 40 plus years I have worn almost nothing else...

But since purchasing my Explorer some two and a half years ago, I hardly wear them anymore...

I never thought I'd see the day...

Out of curiosity, why do you think that is? Why you prefer the Explorer over the SD or Sub.

My guess, size/weight/case back. It is lighter and the flat case back make it comfortable.

Definitely could be a one and done. Comfortable, lightweight, easy on the eyes

This is a question that I have been asking myself...And to be honest I'm not sure why...???

I still love my 16600 and my 14060m and have no intension of selling them...

Increasingly though, the old adage of "Less is More" seems to be appealing to me to a greater degree...

The overall size of the Explorer, the simplicity and understated nature of the piece just works so well...

Maybe its just old age creeping in...

I’ve been defaulting to my Explorer so often it has me questioning whether I need to own as many watches as I do. The Explorer disappears on the wrist and the dial reads easy without glasses. I hike daily in fair weather and the Explorer is my go to. No doubt when winter rolls around again I’ll be glad I have other watch options but when I’m wearing shorts I’m almost always wearing the Explorer.

The Explorer is a classic looking watch and one that never looks dated

The Explorer is more low profile, lighter, and wears more comfortably to me. I should have never traded my 214270.

Not as busy as the ceramic bezels are on the divers.

I've never seen an Explorer that I didn't like. In my opinion, even the two-tone version looks good, although I prefer the stainless steel models.

Rolex makes and has made many wonderful watches, but the Explorer and the Submariner (especially the two-liner) have always been my two personal favorites.

So OP do you just have the 5 digits references that you are comparing your wearing history with or do you also have some 6 digits? If the latter, I would suspect the overall size and balance of the Ex1 draws you in. The 6 digits look great imo but are top heavy.

Not sure about 2 1/2 years ago but definitely now. Have to watch what you’re wearing more. Gotta be it.

I owned a few of the 6 digit references...Sold them all as they were not for me...

I did not like the ceramic bezel, the maxi dial or the thicker lugs...The glide-lock bracelet was very nice but not as comfortable as the 93150 0r 93160 in my opinion...

I can understand that. The 6-digits are not for everyone’s taste…or fit. The 214270 is certainly much closer in comfort to the older sub references and is also refreshingly more simplistic. I for one have never (and will never) need a rotating bezel or the extra 200m of water resistance. I’m a fan of the Ex1 also….all references.
