Fake or Real and Wire Question
Found a deal for a Daytona ... Seller agreed to paypal or Bank Wire.
Here is a pic... What do you guys think? Is sending funds via bank wire safe? If its a fake can I do anything? BTW i'm in Canada and he is in the US. Spoke on the phone seems down to earth. Thanks |

From the information supplied thus far, albeit scant, I'd say don't do it.
The picture of the watch looks alright, a 2000-2004 thin hands version 116520 with nothing obviously wrong but what does that mean really? Now if the seller is a 1000+ Ebayer specialising in watches or a renowned forum seller I would change my tone. You then would know that the watch is real, not stolen and warranted.

I agree with Blaine and Paul, need more info, nor photos, do you have a link to the listing? or even some more info on the seller? also need to see the crown and crownguards, and pushers on a better angle :-)

My advice to you and anyone else would be to never send a bankwire to anyone you dont know personally except if the seller has good sales in high end watches and referals from other legit sellers in the industry..!If you send a bankwire you have no recourse on getting your money back or,get any watch at all!!
I have to agree with Blaine....Something just doesnt look right on the dial!! Im no expert but the markers do look bigger than normal...Where have you found this sale?? Ebay,Kijiji, craigslist?? You should get more info first like more pics for a start + does it have papers and boxes..... Tread carefully my friend....( one Canadian to another eh!!) PS:Dont forget you will incure import fees if you decide to go ahead!!

I recently bought a watch from a forum seller. I specifically referred to the "payment via wire" catch. Once the money is transfered there is no turning back. You can do all the due diligence you want but once the bank hit's send, it's all over with, the ball is in their court. The seller could up and die of a stroke and your money is gone. No one expects to pass away or get robbed but it can happen.
Make sure you are not going to wire your bottom dollar and that no matter the outcome you will not be financially devastated. Not even PAY PAL is 100% insurance, because once the funds have cleared the seller can withdraw and move on. Your best bet is to stay away from things that are too good to be true (if one pops up on your screen), write out a detailed e-mail on what each side expects of the other. Request a picture in front of todays newspaper and set to a date and time of your choice. Consider a face to face if possible. P.S. Just in case I created some confusion, my experience with the seller on this forum was top notch. I rolled the dice, I was man enough to live with the consequences if there were any and there were not !!!!!!!! |

STOP THE PRESS!!!!!!!!! i have a make a confession, do to my lack of wanting a new watch, i didn't consider anything else besides what i have owned, past
and present those markers look like boats to me and without considering the rolex made movement watches, i assumed (you know ass-u-me) that nothing has changed. i need to re-think my position and withdraw my opinion TO NEW for me!!!!!!!! it seems that the 116520 series have gun boats for markers respectfully |

Thanks for all the info guys ... this place is great.
The seller claims its a V series and I spoke to him on the phone and he seemed like a nice guy whatever that means. He's fine with a face-to-face he says. BTW i asked him to set the dial to this time. Which he did. Does this look like a V serial to anyone that has one? |

I've looked for other pictures of the V and none of the Second Markers under the Swiss on what i've found line up to the begging of the last S like this one. Does that say anything?

Mine is a V serial and has the wider hands...and the new style oyster clasp...I wouldn't think any of the V serials have thin hands but the experts here will know.

Robrobin posted a Z and the second marker under the last S in Swiss is not in the same place. Also I did a reverse lookup on the address he gave me for the wire info and its a different name. He wouldn't give me a home phone number only a cell from a different city. To many red flags ... Man these scammers will try anything how can someone talk to you on the phone and seem like a nice person and then steal like that ...

I know very little about Rolex watches
but I was a bank officer for 10 years.

Personally I would never pay with a wire unless I had absolutely golden references, like some of the sellers on this board have.
