New watch suggestions (other then ND Sub)

I keep trying to find reasons not to wait for a ND Sub via an AD. I've looked at a ton of alternatives but keep going back to the Sub. Is there anything else i can be looking at in the $9-10k range that may be more readily available and potentially even better quality?

Yes there are plenty of other watches in that range that are more readily available and similar quality.. For example, Tudor Pelagos 39. But you should buy what you want.. likely nothing else will scratch that sub itch. Go grey if youre tired of waiting. Premiums arent that high currently.

You could pay around 12 and have it on your wrist tomorrow.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms?

I'd just hold out a little longer, looks like everything is becoming more available.

If you really want a Sub, nothing else will scratch the itch.

If Sub is really what you want, then go for a submariner. Nothing else will truly fill that void, there is no substitute!

Wait for the Sub or buy another watch that’s different to it whilst you wait for the Sub. I was in a similar position last year and bought an Omega Seamaster. Lovely watch but it’s not had any wrist time since I got my Sub Date a few months later.

I had this conundrum a few weeks ago myself. I didn't want to play the AD games but I wanted a Sub. I looked at alternatives and thought about it a while. Like others have said, you'll be disappointed if you get something else but really wanted a Sub. Go grey. The premium is there but it's as low as it has been in a long while. I'm glad I did. I don't regret getting what I wanted. It's a lot of money to drop and not get what you really want.

Agree with all of the above. If you buy something else you will regret it.

I know I have to wait. I've looked at a lot of watches:

Planet Ocean 39.5 too thick
Seamaster bracelet looks like a 90's Tag
Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT close to really liking it just seems a bit large

Glashütte Original SeaQ (Original or PD)

Readily available, should be able to work out a discount between 15-20% and better finishing than the Sub.

I sort of went through something similar...

Here are some watches I would recommend.

Everyone asking me for a Sub (new, retail) I tell them go vintage! I think they are way cooler.

Zenith Chronomaster Sport.

Zenith Chronomaster Original.

*These bracelets are slightly lacking compared to Rolex. (I have one)

Omega Speedy.

Rolex 41mm OP.

It is only a $2k difference between AD and grey, but I wouldn’t want to pay it either. But I don’t think you’ll ever be happy with a “sub”stitute (it’s been done here a million times but I couldn’t resist).

A common sentiment here is that nothing really satisfies the itch of a Rolex, (especially a Sub) if that’s what you want. There are other watches (heck, even better ones than Rolex), but those hit different spots and do not satisfy the Rolex itch.

In the long run, $1-2k makes no difference.

If you want the Sub, get the sub. Don’t look for alternatives since it will cost you more money in the long run.

Just be patient. Check in with your AD in person and let them know you're still interested in the watch. You'll get one eventually.

Sub is probably my favorite watch in existence, so some bias here. So my answer would be to wait or go grey cause it's worth it.

But to answer your question, yes, there are tons of watches in that price bracket and lower that are equal or better quality than the Sub and readily available.

I think some integrated bracelet watches (may have to go preowned for some of these?) are good options. Chopard AE, GP Laureato, IWC Ingenieur off the top of my head.

Non-divers I've tried that have given me that "Rolex feel" for various reasons : IWC Mark XX, Omega Speedy Pro, Grand Seiko SLGH009, Tudor BB36, Tudor Ranger

Divers that have given me that "Rolex feel" for various reasons : SeaQ 39.5, Tudor BB58, Tudor BB54, Omega Seamaster

In a world where Rolex doesn't exist and I'm looking for a diver, the SeaQ 39.5 is the clear winner for me. Exquisite build quality and finish, awesome on the fly adjustment system.

A third vote for the SeaQ, although a date complication is standard on both sizes.

It's one helluva watch, but it will never be what you want if what you want is the 124060

I agree with what most have already said. Wait for your AD or go grey. There is no SUBstitute.

I bought a different watch (a different Rolex back when some stuff was in the display case) when I wanted a sub. I ended up buying the Sub when it came in anyway. No matter what you buy, you’ll end up buying the Sub when you can get it.

Lots of great watches out there, good suggestions already.

It's likely none will replace the desire for a Sub though.

Tudor is the closest anything has ever come for me, they have a definite vibe to them that reminds me of Rolex. Black Bay and Pelagos lines both have some Sub DNA in them I feel and are both available and affordable. If you just need something to tide you over while you wait, that would be my suggestion.

I third (or forth or fifth) this! I have one myself.... BUT as others have rightly said, if you really want the Sub, nothing will be a substitute.

As the/my saying goes - buy second-best, buy twice.

I'd wait for the Sub. It looks and feels great on the wrist and is iconic for a reason. You'll likely end up not wearing your substitute watch once the Sub arrives, otherwise a Tudor Black Bay is nice with similar though not quite as good quality. Good luck. Cheers!
