How many display pieces are AD’s required to have?

I live in a medium sized town. Local AD is a family jewelry shop that’s been around for a few generations.

This past week I was there and counted the Rolex display watches. Over 32 watches on “display only”. About a dozen in the front window and 20 something inside. Only 2 watches not marked as display only were a white gold Sub, and a full yellow gold Sky dweller.

Anyhow, I was surprised they were willing to carry that much inventory as display only items. Is this normal?

That does sound like a lot and you say it’s a medium sized shop?…
The two ADs I frequent one has about 8 and the other about 15.

I have 4 ADs in my area. Each of them have around 10 pieces or less on display.

32 is a lot, they look stocked up!

There is no fixed number by Rolex.

My guess is the one with 32 is betting on inflation + a reversal of the ban on selling exhibition models.

My local AD (Goldsmiths) also has 32 in the window split into 4 separate displays

There is only about 10-12 display pieces at my AD. I guess they are trying to lure people in with the thought of lots of display pieces means lots of allocated pieces go that AD, I would think the opposite though; lots of display pieces means all the good ones are going to display cabinets not customers.

Having visited my nearby AD today, I must correct my earlier report. There were 32 after all. I had failed to count the watches being displayed in glass enclosed niches.

Also, they had 3 TT Lady DJ’s with Diamond bezels for sale.

From what I was told from my AD, they are required to have a certain amount of inventory on hand. As more comes in, more can go out. I don't think they specified if they had to remain in the vault or on display.

On my last visit to my AD which is a big city Boutique the cases looked pretty full although I was just there to chat with my SA. I think they try to keep at least one variation of each model on display. They sell a lot of Rolex watches.
The last time I was in my small market local AD I think their “Rolex Specialist” mentioned something like they had to keep 30 watches in stock although only a dozen or so were on display. It kind of sounded like if you asked for a specific reference and they happened to have it in the back, you might just get it that day. He did say like others mentioned here that they couldn’t sell these display models until they got a replacement.

I was at an AD today and they had a ton of exhibition pieces including a black ceramic steel Daytona, a gold gmt black/grey jubilee, an eisenkessel day date RO with diamond bezel. Etc.

They're required to have 15 pieces of flair.

I was at my local AD (1 of their 3 stores) last Friday. I didn;t count the display pieces, but my estimate is around 20 or so. What I did notice was that there we NO daytonas at all. They know i want a 126610LN sub (or LV), and a new model daytona. We'll see

I was at the Rolex boutique in DC, part of a family owned high end jewelry shop (also has a Patek boutique) has easily 50 watches, probably more on display, including the Celebration, lefty GMT, new TT GMT, you name it. Great place to try models. (Don’t recall if they had a Panda on display though, I think not).

The northern VA dealership that has 4 locations in area, at their flagship shop has changed to a single counter with about 5-6 watches display.
