Is it safe? Istanbul
As above.
Going for a week next month and wondering if I'm OK to wear my Submariner there? |

Yes.
No. YMMV. That’s what people will tell you.

Wearing a watch that is several times the annual salary of the average citizen in a large urban area is always risky, but overall, Istanbul is a very safe, friendly city.

Why worry about it? Take a beater watch and enjoy your trip. Don't waste the mental and emotional resources with the "head on a swivel" situation. If you have to ask, then the answer is pretty much don't.

It's perfectly safe......as long as you don't actually go there.
Don't flash your wealth, wherever you are. Especially Avoid: Tarlabasi: Long considered Istanbul’s most dangerous neighborhood, Tarlabasi is extremely poor and crime rates are high. Even though it’s only a few blocks away from the much-loved Istiklal Street, tourists never actually end up in Tarlabasi. Dolapdere: A bit north of Tarlabasi you’ll find Dolapdere, which is another impoverished neighborhood. Far from being one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world, you’ll still want to avoid the area unless you know a local resident. |

If you have any doubts at all don’t take it. Better safe than sorry.

For you: No.
Reason: Criminals sense your fear like a shark senses blood miles away in the ocean. |

I'd be cautious anywhere, especially with a Rolex. Have you considered insuring the watch?

It is safe but you can’t be so certain. Don’t stay out late with such a timepiece on your wrist. Just to be on the safe side

Simple answer. Wear whatever watch you can easily afford to lose or handover, and then quickly replace should you want to.

Well put. People that ask these questions, hinting that their own or their family's safety is less important than their wristwatch, need some serious self examination.

I don't read it that way. I think they believe they and their family will be fine on their visit. Their only concern is that a flashy watch will draw unwanted attention to them and that will lead to trouble they would not have experienced but for the watch.
