While I can understand the desire for a Sky Dweller, this deal doesn't make financial sense in my opinion. Great deal for the dealer, not so much for you. And as others have said, be sure to try the Sky on before you buy, it's big.

"Fair' goes out the window when dealing with Greys. It is about availability and market price.

Is it fair to spend 50k at the AD and still wait years?

I wouldn’t do that trade personally but the numbers don’t seem that bad. I’d say wholesale, the BLNR would be $13-14k and the DJ41 would be about $7k. The blue SD is $24k according to watch charts. A grey dealer is not going to give you retail for your watches and sell you his at retail. Doesn’t work like that. So money wise, it’s not bad. Watch wise, I wouldn’t do it.

That deal may be off. But I’d make the trade at the end of the day. Just call around and see if you can strike a better deal. It’s part of the fun!

Maybe I’m missing something but I’m seeing blue SS SD for around $21k and falling. Next week they may be $20k?

OP: is BLNR newest reference 3285 or 3185? That’s a $1.5k difference. I would shop around for an even trade or money back on your end if they really want that SD.

I would NOT do that trade. Would much rather have your two. Good luck!

I'll jump on the "resounding no" train. Does a SkyD "do" everything that the DJ41 & GMT-II does? Yes. Is it an even trade for an SS DJ41 & SS GMT-II? Maybe. Cash on top? Hard no. Especially for a SS SkyD. It's not that special to me. It's also pretty big, but I assume if you've got a DJ41 & GMT-II, your wrists aren't small.

On Watchcharts the 326934-0004 has a listed market of $23932 and I’m going to guess the dealer is going to bump that up by $2-3k assuming he’s working on a 15-20% margin.

And yes, I’m sure it will keep falling but I’m sure his watch values will be falling too. So if he likes the SD more than his watches, I say do it. Not like he is trading watches that are irreplaceable.

I don’t think the OP is going to see cash back unless he private sells his watches. Like I said, a dealer is not going to give him market value as he needs to make something and in a falling market, the dealer might take a hit. I imagine like I said, the dealer will offer $13-14k and try and sell the BLNR for $15-16k. The DJ he will probably offer around $7-8k and try and sell for $10k as he’s got to compete with everyone else selling the same watches in a falling market. Also if the OP tries to private sell the watches, there is the risk plus again a falling market and buying from a known dealer vs Joe off the street unless he has very good references. But I do agree, the OP should try to do it as straight trade. Adding the $1k on his end seems a little high but then again, what’s $1k in a year or two if he really likes the watch.

But like I said, I personally wouldn’t do the deal anyways as I’m not a big fan of the SD and would rather have my BLNR.

yeah, this. Sorry, but I just don;t get the idea that the SD is a "1 and done" watch - especially compared to the2 you are trading. You asked

I own a SkyD Blue. I would do that trade. It will take a while but better to just wait for one from an AD.

Depending on references, you are probably at ~25K of watches and you can get a the Skydweller for 22K. So yeah not a good deal.

I’d rather keep a DJ and a GMT. A lot more fun, versatility and history in those 2 models.
No following…..complication that very few people use…..hmmm. While the OP trade might not be great, IMHO the SkyD is an amazing timepiece and a strong value considering the complications, which I feel are useful and quite simple to adjust.

I'd make sure you shop around to 5+ dealers to see who can give you the best deal. You also might want to give yourself a couple weeks to sell the pieces for close to retail to see if you can squeeze out more $ to make the deal more favorable. Once you make up your mind to let the two go, it's easy to start seeing the new acquisition on your wrist.

Terrible trade. Say no. Blue Dial DJ is (IMO) a nicer piece the that SD (too busy - and it felt clunky on). GMT plus DJ > SD. As others have commented, the cash kicker is insulting.

Based on prices I’m seeing. He should be the one giving you 1-4K. And closer to 4

That isn’t a good trade and isn’t one I’d be happy with. Your 2 watches offer more up than the SKYD

Thank you all so much for the input. This is why I value this community. I’ve decided against the trade becuase as much as the Skydweller seems like a nice ‘upgrade’ I realise the value and owning two watches is better for me personally than the trade. Thanks again community
