15407 upgrade question

Hi TRF,
I have heard some rumors about 15407 being « upgraded ». Since it’s an old movement compared to the new 15510 this coud make sense.
I really love the actual 15407st or 15416ce and wonders what usually happens when an upgraded version comes out. If I hate the new one, will the old one becomes a lot more expensive because it is now « discontinued » or will it go down because everyone want the new one ?
I am torn between waiting for the new one and going AD way or just buy the old one now …
Thx for your winsdom

The 15407 is definitely being upgraded. I saw the prototype rendering of the successor: new movement and some slight aesthetic changes.

I think they will be released mid to late 24; still an opportunity to get the current model direct, however I would wait for the new model.

I am doing the same for the QP and passing on the 26574 and waiting for the 26674 in Oct 2024.

Wow. Can’t wait to see it. I think the 15407/15416 is the nicest openworked. So looking forward to seeing what changes are in store.

Do you know what the differences will be for the new QP?

The only difference I want is the one that will never be done in years to come, and that's get the regular qp back in 39mm size...

It won’t be the JLC base, it will be an in house movement.

Curious to know if they will keep the week indicator. Glad I got the latest dial config, as I think it’s the best.

I knew a new one was coming and still very happily took my delivery a few months ago. I love the current 15407 and 1) don’t know if I will like the new one as much and 2) had no idea how long it would take for one to come my way.

Willyjo - it sounds like the new openworked and new QP will both me late 2024/2025 releases?

I would just grab the double balance today.

APs new movements have massive barrels that look pretty awful on skeleton watches. The successor to the 15407 will be no different, just look at the skeleton jumbos

What was your impression of the aesthetic updates? I’m guessing that if they are slight, then they are positive changes. I’m inclined to wait a little longer on mine if this is the case.

They have a new gold - sand gold and the dial is the same colour. Looks interesting in the rendering.

New movement based on 7120 calibre.

I am patiently waiting.

Appreciate the insight. Really curious about this given my love of the 15407/15416

The thought of waiting crossed my mind as well. I decided to ask for the 15416ce at the beginning of this year as I love the look and didn't want to risk not liking the new release. After receiving the allocation a couple of months ago, I have absolutely no regrets as I'm in love with the watch. If I like the new one, I'll ask for a steel version of it and wait.

I don't think anything unusual will happen with the price of the 15407ST or 15416CE in response to release of a potential successor. "Everyone" may want a new model, but few will get it initially. On the other hand, unless AP somehow screws up the "upgraded" model, I also don't expect a bump in price for the 15407ST - can't think of many recent releases where replacement led to appreciation. If it was just straight discontinued that might be a slightly different story.

I picked up my 15407 after a 2+ year wait - even if I was sure the new one would be as nice or nicer, I wouldn't go for a multi-year wait - first until the new one comes out and then until all the more important people than me have gotten theirs. It would also not surprise me if a new model came with a significant price hike.

That sounds like the more interesting option, thanks. AP doesn’t have a bad track record with its updates so far.
Like VP suggests, a price hike would not be surprising, unless they pull a QO level hike! In such case, i’m fine with current version.

I’m confused. They’re not going to have the predecessor and the successor in the production at the same time right?

Love the current 15407/15416. the size of the movement allows for the ring inside the bezel that says AUDEMARS PIGUET instead of printing it on the glass like in the 41mm tourb skelly. Don't get me wrong, will probably love the new iteration, but it will be different and the double balance is pretty much perfect to me.

interesting... I LOVE the current DBW dial, but yes it's a slightly smaller movement, where the back of the movement leaves much to be desired.

I put in a word with my SA about pursuing the openwork and he said he thinks very much a possibility. I don't think I'll be upset whether getting the new one of the old one... maybe both in different materials? hehe

As I think about it more, I have to agree with you. It’s not huge differences.
