The battle of the 5396

Torn between the 5396r and 5396g. Not usually a rose gold guy but the "r" is making it a really difficult decision!

Would love to hear from people who have the 5396 and how they decided on which model.

Well, Ric Flair would surely choose the more flashy R if that makes a difference :)

More seriously, the R may be more beautiful, but will you wear and enjoy it as much? For me, use and enjoyment (and by this I mean enjoyment of the watch through its intended purpose) takes precedence over gazing at an object of beauty in a watch box that I would wear less often. That said, if it's beautiful enough, I guess mere ownership, but with much less wear, can be enough.

I agree with these sentiments 100%. I find Rose gold looks odd on my wrist.
I love the look of it, but as soon as I put it on it doesn’t sit well. Not sure if it’s a skin tone thing. My good lady wife who is of African decent, can wear rose gold all day long !

So are you a WG advocate?

Always G for me! Always love how low key a white gold watch can be.

Not necessarily. You said you're not generally a rose gold wearer, so I posited the wearability consideration. I have similar leanings. Some rose gold watches are captivating, but I'm not sure I'll find opportunities to wear them, and in the end they may be too flashy for me.

OP, since it is an AC and it is meant to be worn daily, G seems preferable if you want to be « under the radar ». R is more dressy and visible.

Oh man. Tough. It’s a great watch with a perfectly laid out dial. I have a friend who has both white and rose.
If you’re just going to keep it as is I’d go rose. If you want to change up the straps often, I’d go white.
You can go wrong

Another for for the G. For me, WG > RG 11 times out of 10.

The discontinued G with the white dial looks very reminiscent of the 3448 so gets my vote.
Hope they do a similar perpetual calendar version some day.
Also seen some preowned around 30 USD recently. A big discount from last retail price prior to end of production. Tempting!

I went for the r as I wanted a rose gold watch to add to my collection and personally preferred the look vs the white gold. It is definitely more dressy and I tend to wear for more special occasions. Can't go wrong with either, a classic movement and look which I feel gets overlooked.

Congrats! Yes that’s true they are both great pieces and an elegant daily wear.
I also really liked the sector version but feel the 5296 sector is more fitting whereas the 5396 looks cleaner without the sector. All great pieces. One of my fav nautilus also the 5726/1a in white with the same movement.

I have a G. I do like the R with Blue dial and diamond baguettes, but it wasn't available at that time.

G is an understated watch.
