Low Power Reserve

I haven't taken my A-K 116900 off in about seven months. I did the other day to check power reserve. I gave it full wind and only lasted 28 hours. Bought in 2021 and has been to RSC under warranty. Any ideas why short reserve? Watch runs good.

That’s plenty. Do the test again and if it fails then the mainspring has probably broke.

Still under warranty. If I send it will be the 3rd time to RSC NY. Keeps good time though. Would it with broken mainspring?

Just curious. Its a 2001 and already has been to RSC twice and now probably a 3rd time? What were the issues previously?

Would expect if mainspring is broken would doubt if it would run for 28 hours.


Depends on how you wind it to fully wind 40-50 plus full crown turns clockwise only, dont worry you cannot over-wind it.

Thanx everyone. It's not a 2001. I got it new in 2021. It was +30 seconds a day from the second I put it on. Sent it in. I think they regulated the watch. Was good at first like +3 a day and gradually went to +20 seconds a day a stayed there. I took to AD in Exton, PA I think Benari. Bunch of pretentious idiots in there. I told them running fast. Timegrapher said running slow. I asked them to slow it a little(in house watchmaker). She obviously sped it up because it went to +45 seconds a day. I had them send it in. Got it back. Right now stuck on +15 seconds a day. It's fast obviously but I can live with that.

I don't think it can run at with a broken mainspring, if there is no tension there is no power.

none of what you cite is normal, so there is either something wrong with the watch or something wrong with your home testing method.

I make no judgement but recommend that you send it to Rolex RSC directly yourself with your issues clearly written out. They will either confirm or deny an issue and fix anything wrong, likely under warranty.

Best advice ^^^^^^

At one time I owned a 116900 Air King that ran +3 seconds per day for years although I never checked the PR. Dallas or NY RSC definitely the way to go.

I agree, this is the best approach, however…

“They will either confirm or deny an issue“

More likely Rolex will Neither confirm or deny an issue. When we sent my wife’s DJ to RSC for some ugly scratching sound when winding, all they said was in a simple invoice “Serviced and Tested”
