Lexus GX 550

Just picked up our GX 550 which we have been waiting on for about six months.

We ended up with the Luxury trim level which is really nice inside with soft touch materials. The main reason we went with the Luxury is simply because it was the first available in the color my wife wanted with captain's chairs in the second row. I think we would have been just as happy with the Premium; however, the massaging and extended thigh support seats on the Luxury are surprisingly nice. The semi-aniline leather is much nicer than what I have on my Audi and what I have seen on the BMW leather.

It will be an adjustment going back to ladder on frame construction. It does drive like a real truck albeit with a touch softer tuning. I will most likely be going down to 20" wheels for winter tires.

More driving impressions (especially off-road) to follow once my wife lets me drive it. In about four years.

Looks awesome, thanks for posting. The only complaint I’ve heard from owners so far is that there is no option on luxury trim for 18 or 20 inch wheels. Other than that, everyone is raving. I’m test driving one today myself.

They knocked it out of the park on the redesign. I have a 460, and will be considering this or a the new Landcruiser once it is time to replace it.

Enjoy!

Very nice. Please give us an update in the future when you have spent some time behind the wheel. I have looked at these and the LX600 and am really just not clear on what I want. I have owned several LX's before and a GX and think they are wonderful vehicles.

We were waiting for an LX600 for over two years when this GX came out. The initial sales consultant screwed up and deleted us from the LX600 wait list because we passed on the super high end one when it was offered. When we discovered this 15 months later, the GX was just announced. To make amends, the sales manager offered the first GX that met our criteria. My wife actually likes this one more. I may be in the market for an LX in a couple of years.

I must say that I am not a fan of the 22” wheels. They are seriously misplaced on a frame construction vehicle. This will be the first mod.
