I’ve been looking at Daytonas. Seems like the ceramic bezel models are more popular than the metal ones.

I know it is probably subjective but if you were offered a WG with a blue dial would you buy it?

I personally would go for the 116509 if you are offered one from an AD. The complement of the white gold and the blue dial with the hint of red is a winner for me. And you are getting a full PM watch to boot.

For me, the black ceramic bezel, on any daytona (steel or PM), is what finally drew me to the daytona design. I'm still not a fan of the metal bezels in any material.

Plus, more durable. So ceramic for me, all the way.

I would rather get gold bezel with full bracelet than ceramic bezel with OF unless you go for Platinum Daytona. WG Daytona with blue dial is gorgeous timepiece.

WG blue dial Daytona is my favorite Rolex, and possibly the only watch I would consider paying market premium for (hoping that it wears a little bigger than my wife's 116520).

Thanks all for the responses. The comparison is about a WG Daytona from an AD with or without the ceramic bezel so the cost differential is much less than a SS ceramic vs. WG. It's more about whether to wait longer for a WG or RG with ceramic and oysterflex, which is where I started, or go with a WG without ceramic (and bracelet). Leaning toward going for it since the blue dial is unique to the WG.

I wore a 5 digit Zenith Daytona with gold bezel for 12 years straight. If I had the choice I would avoid the metal bezel since its a scratch magnet and cannot be polished without removing the paint encrusted within the bezel print. I replaced the bezel twice on my zenith during 15 years since they made the watch look terrible after 5 or so years.

It will all depend on what you wear the watch for. If its a 24/7 watch you never remove from your wrist then the bezel is the achilles heel of the Daytona

It stinks having to be careful with a Daytona bezel. Ceramic sure is eye candy, but it brings a VERY sporty look to the watch that the Daytona was not known for.

The metal bezel watches (11650X models) are pure class/elegance, and the ceramic models 116500 & 11651X) are pure sport watches. Rolex drew the line, and I never felt comfortable wearing a 116515 with a suit, but never had a problem wearing my 116509 with anything.

This is a hard choice.

However I am thinking of trading my 116500 white dial to upgrade to the 116509 blue.

The 116509 and full WG is amazing.

I much prefer the ceramic bezel as the PM is a scratch magnet. I love that the ceramic does not scratch easily. But ultimately, it is what you prefer.

The PM WG in 30 years will be the more collectible watch.

The ceramic will look brand new, but it won't match the other wear of the steel.
