Controversial Submariner
So I recently bought a Green Sub, and I love it, but for the summer wanted an alternative strap option. Having had a Yachtmaster 40 Rose before on Oysterflex, nothing comes close to the Oysterflex bracelet.
So I sourced a genuine Oysterflex for a 42mm Yachtmaster and some aftermarket end links and this is the result. The Yachtmaster has a divot in the case and the lugs are drilled closer to the case so the strap sits flush and can still rotate. With the sub, the lugs are drilled further away of course allowing for the end links on the bracelet. This means that if you don’t have the end links it looks a bit odd which is why I chose to add them, they’re 904L steel and brushed so I feel like they work well. So comfortable, great alternative, of course I still love the watch “as it should be” on the remarkable oyster bracelet, but I like to have the option, means I wear the watch more across the collection. Keen to hear what people think! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

It looks good on your wrist... How much was the after-market oysterflex strap?

The only thing controversial is wearing that metal bracelet next to your watch. The watch on Oysterflex looks great!

It’s silver so won’t scratch steel or gold. Usually on my other wrist to be fair. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Take that other bracelet off. It will ruin the underside of your watch case. Believe me, I know. As for the look, I would have saved a bundle and put it on a black Isofrane. I have several for my divers.

I’ve said it before, Rolex should offer Oysterflex as an option or even add-on for all the popular Professional models. I will never understand their logic of coming up with something fun and versatile then limiting it to only PM models. Rubber straps on nice watches has been a thing since the 80’s, nothing rare or unusual about it.
Same for the new mini glidelock. The one on Subs is too big for most models but the mini would be great on everything from GMTs to Datejusts. OP, I think your watch looks great. |

Had to have a smaller size of the 6 o’clock part of the OF to allow for the larger clasp. I was E/F on the Yachtmaster, this one is D/F. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I’ve got some for my 116500, in my case E/E works. My steel bracelet has the more typical 4/6 links.

This is incorrect. Submariners are bracelet watches, except a 5517.

Looks OK but will look a lot better on it's original oyster bracelet IMHO.

The Oysterflex bracelet is so comfy, right? It's great that you found a way to make it work for your Green Sub.

Controversial Submariner
The bracelet conversation is a bit of a distraction, I put a whoop band on my right wrist today, and so moved the bracelet to my left with the watch, I have no intention of leaving it there.
Yeah I’m sure it would scratch the watch a bit, not that I’m personally massively worried about a watch getting scratched. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Controversial Submariner
My only thought is that the brushed Oyster bracelet on the Submariner might be the best bracelet on the market. Period. So why would someone replace that?

Looks great - You did the most proper "aftermarket" OF change possible.
Don't forget its your watch, you have to like it and thats about it!

I love the metal Submariner bracelet. But it looks pretty great on the oysterflex. And if you love it, keep rocking it. This pic above is not mine. I found it on another forum. I just think it looks awesome and good alternative to metal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
