President bracelet problem

I have an older YG Day-Date (purchased in 1965) with the President bracelet. All the removable links have been removed, yet the fit is still slightly to big for me. My jewler said he can "break" a link, but I believe that would make the fit too tight -- judging from the dimentions of the link that would be removed.

My solution was to buy a leather band, which I like, but completely changes the watch! Any advice would be welcome. By the way, I'm a new member of TRF and enjoy reading through the site very much.
