Nice side-by-side comparison. I guess I'd give the edge to the lume on the PAM, but the GV looks pretty visible too.

Side by side comparison is very cool! I really expected to see a significant difference between the 2 with the PAM having more light. But, the GV did a good job! And, the 2 color lume on the GV blows the PAM out of the water. Apologies to any Paneristi viewing.

There are usually many members who have more experience and knowledge than me in query threads, but this time I feel I can confidently talk about Milgauss lume VS Panerai lume. I will begin by saying I am not a fanboy of any brand I like my Milgauss GV and my Panerai (and my other watches) differently. No watch is "better" as each serves a purpose.
I achieved this much luminosity on the GV by charging it head on with a 100 lume torch light for about 2 minutes. I rarely see the blue lume on a daily basis. As mentioned by a friend on another thread too, the 3 blue markers ( hours 3, 6 and 9) are rarely lit up by any form of light to show this much contrast in colors. This means that the green markers charge up regularly and show green, where as I can say I have only seen the blue a few times (in summer when the sun is strongest in this part of the world). How ever, its the opposite with the Panerai. I get this much intensity in lume on a daily basis (as illustrated in my photo). It took only about 10 seconds of the torch to raise the lume level to what it is in the image. I see this much lume every day on my Panerai. I have noticed this during my drive home from work at 3 pmeveryday. It is rarely cloudy in this country. The sun is the same every day. On the days I wear my Panerai, I will come home and it will be as bright as it is in the image and remain pretty bright for at least a couple of hours (slowly decreasing in lume at a decreasing level). The Panerai requires very little light to charge up and charge up fast. The Rolex needs more light and more time to charge up. This is proven in the picture taking process. It took minutes to get it to charge up fully and it also quickly discharged. Especially the blue markers, I had to recharge before every shot ( a max of 45 seconds between each shot). Specifically the blue markers would quickly discharge into a blue'ish green color. Where as the Panerai remained bright on the initial charge of the torch. Does that make the Panerai better? Only if it were a lume competition and it wasnt a competition. I would like to see Rolex enhance the blue markers so that they reach their blue state as easily as the green reaches full lume. This way the end user can enjoy the blue more frequently. |

Great photo, that GV looks soo cool with the blue lume.....
However, I agree with the point you make about the blue lume taking a longer time to charge and a very quick or quicker time to discharge it's light energy. My only question is then why does the DSSD have blue lume and why does that, as seems to be reported by all who know, work so well??????? Is the blue lume on the DSSD somehow different than the GV and for that matter the white dial Milgauss. Obviously the unillumated colour is different from white on the DSSD to orange on the GV and white Milgauss......but should that make a difference........ My guess is the addition of the orange pigment lume is somehow less dense in it's concentration of luminova particles. Who knows

Jim, your welcome :)
Stevo, good analysis. Maybe because the GV is a more formal watch, they injected less "lume" into it? |
