I might not be reading that right. The 5513 made it's debut circa 1962. Are you saying a four digit serial number??

Hi - it is a little worn but the serial number looks to be just 6 digit starting with 00.

Very early examples did have six digits, but starting around 7. Might be worn from the endlinks (not uncommon).
Can you post a good photo of the dial? It will tell a lot. |

I'm with mike on this..
I believe that that number would need to start with at least a 6XXXXX, and that would put it in an original '62 timeframe....

Well, it's a white meters first dial. Meters first dials were from circa 1962 (the beginning of the run) till about 1968 (give or take). The first dials were of the gilt variety so assuming the dial is original lets say the watch falls into the 67/68 range.(roughly)
The serial number would be a way to narrow the date down a bit as would any service history on the watch. Looks to be some rust/corrosion along the top which would indicate to me it's been a while since service. I'd guess the seals are pretty well gone. Light can do funny things but the dial/hands look in nice condition (can't see the coronet). New crystal/crown/stem would be the order of the day along with a service and it would be a very nice example of a reference we will never see again. Good show. |

Thank you for your informative feed back. I think i will do as you say and invest in a service/overhaul. Hopefully it will then provide another 25 years of pleasure!
