A week or so ago, I had a competitor call me to tell me she had heard some "really good things" about me. In the profession I am in, it is the norm to speak with a few contemporaries regularly, but it is not necessarily the norm for them to compliment you.
But as far as one of the things in life that really makes me happy, watching the sun come up is one of my faves.

We had a earthquake yesterday, and my first thought was, oh my god JJ fell down again, is he all right? Last time JJ fell down at the beach he created a tsunami.

A cup of coffee and the morning newspaper.

My daughters coming home from St. Paul for the weekend.

Going home after a bad night shift.

Waking up in the morning and getting on my motorcycle 1500 miles from home heading to a new destination.

Without getting too philosophical, when I think about my own mortality, what bothers me is the thought of leaving nature's beautiful scenery behind - no more green trees and blue sky. One of my favorite pasttimes is walking on the park trails with Taffi. Sometimes I'll go with my friends and their dogs. A simple but powerful pleasure (and those are really the best kind!)

Hi Faith, since I retired, I just enjoy having a good cup of coffee and reading the newspaper each morning. Then I like to go for a nice walk around the neighborhood after everyone has gone to work. Very peaceful and satisfying.

Peace and quiet. no noise, just the sound of the ocean. That makes me happy.

Watching a good movie or reading Thoreau makes me happy as well.

Also fulfilling long held ambitions, I have done three this year which makes me feel really happy!

Those goals have been with me for collectively 30 years. It feels good to have achieved them and great to feel that the only way now is up..That makes me happy

A succsesful and peacefull divorce granted later this month, that will make me very happy..I can move on at last!

I was able to spent many hours yesterday "puttering and tinkering" in the gardens. Moved orchids here, repotted orchids there, fertilized plants, etc. It was (and will always be) a very cathartic experience for me.

I also smoked two beef rib racks for 10 hours and served a wonderful Easter feast for my wife and one of her girl friends (we didn't want her to celebrate alone).

Although my gardens were damaged in the terrible winter of 2010 they are coming back. The weather is warm and the koi pond is almost (almost) warm enough for me to jump in and do some maintenance! Big fish!

It was an awesome Easter Sunday.

What I find very soothing is sleeping in the winter with down blankets and cracking the window a bit. I love the feeling of cool air on my face (as long as the rest of me is warm.)

When traveling, getting up early and walking around the city, soaking up how the city slowly wakes up.

Or the moments that I get to spend with my family, watching movies together, or cooking together, or simply being together.
