Most likely its has tritium markers, and tritium doesnt last very long.Nothing wrong with that tho, I have a '73 GMT 1675, doesnt glo, but the patina looks great.

i also had the watched serviced 5 years ago and today after entering a pool i noticed fogging. Took the watch off and set in the sun and its dry now. re-entered the pool and same results..No more pool for it till I get home and have it serviced again...Thought I would have a discussion about the no light-up hands then.

tritium is the old standard your can't have it re coated as it's life span is approx 7 years you may need a replacement dial and hands at a cost though !

Makes it about an 85ish example? If so the original dail/hands set would have been tritium. By now trit. dials have given up the ghost. Re-luming, as mentioned, is a possibility, but tritium won't be used. Rather luminova will be the material. Luminova needs light to activate (unlike the old tritium dials).
Re-luming generally has an impact on value (down) and is not something most collectors like. Another approach would be a service replacement dial. Again value is affected, but perhaps not to the extent re-luming would do. The fogging sounds like a problem with the seals or crown/stem. Might want to have that checked. Good luck. |

The original hands can be relumed as well as the original dial. To the pure collector this is a no-no,but if it is for you and aren't worried about a slight decrease in value do what makes you happy. Rikki

I would be more concerned with the fogging than the lack of lume.
Hope you get it sorted!

If you had your Sub serviced 5 years ago, and you experience fogging while simply swimming, I might wonder how good the service was..........The seals on a Sub are way over-engineered..
Was this service done at an approved Rolex shop...........??

1991
My tritium Exp2 from 1991 still glows in the dark.
Try to source a dial and hands from guys like Steven Mulholland, they propably have them, then sent them to a local repairman to get it installed together with the service. The smallest ammount of water can destroy a movement over time and also the dial. Take it in for service. Jack |
