NonRolex: Challenging the SD16600's reputation ....

Is there any other watch out there that is not a Rolex Diver, that can challenge the SD16600 one on one?

The FF doesn't match up to the SD at only 300m.
I guess you can say it's a competitor to the Sub, but I think the Sub has a larger following.

Bell and Ross manufacture divers watches that are rated beyond 10 000m. There are other companies out there as well that manufacture timepieces that go to remarkable depths. I own a Ploprof which is only rated to 1200m I believe, its never going to see 10feet.

Precisely 300m is more than enough for the average divers watch like the SD were made for saturation diving.Where divers live in a chamber pressurised at the depth they was working. And while breathing gases with a high helium content the gas molecules are that small they can enter the watch via the seals. And when the drivers re-compress to normal atmospheric pressures any gas already in watch would escape though the one way HEV.And the plain SD was more than adequate for present man and future man. Most very high depth rating dive watches are more brag factor mine is bigger than yours
factor than anything. And today would doubt if 90% of all diving watches see any water other than the shower or perhaps the swimming pool.

Just out of curiosity, is there a rationale to the PloProf that is rated

to go no deeper than the SD, but has all that extraneous, bulky hardware that might lead one to think it was rated to the bottom of the Marianas Trench? To me it looks just plain weird, and I'm an Omega owner and fan.

Man, I'd swap my LV for that in a heartbeat. Fabulous watch.

£5,000 on top?, not so much.

I kind of have to agree with that, I love Omega, and I love the Seamaster line, but the PloProf's design just looks unnecessary considering its specs.

Planet Ocean is the first that comes to mind.

I have a PO but I think it falls short of the SD on two fronts: depth rating, and the SD has a better He valve.

Hi,

I have had a Breitling, Avenger Seawolf that I bought as a work watch.

My criteria was a watch that was easy to read, water proof and rugged. I have only had it a couple years and so I don't personally know about long term reliability as compared to rolex.

It has a 3,000M or 10,000 foot depth rating and an escape valve. A little thick at 18 mm x 44 mm but being Titanium it is light at only 103 grams. Interestingly the Crystal is reportedly 4.5 mm thick.

Kindest regards,
Jack

It is what it is. The SD isn't the only nice diver watch, as others have pointed out and as most of us already know. If you are a Rolex sportswatch fan, as I am, then the SD and other Rolex dive watches are going to be of particular interest to us, more so probably than other brands. This is a Rolex forum, right? What would you expect us to say.

The German brand Sinn's UX model has a quartz movement and is rated to a depth of 40,000 feet....

I think Sinn build the Hydromax for Bell & Ross.

I found and interesting low cost American-Swiss Challenger.
