YM has a platinum dial and bezel which explains the much higher cost but $3k higher is questionable.

More or less, yes. The bezel markings are identical. YMs use only precious metal on their bezels - either Pt. or YG.

YM bezels swing both ways, Sub bezel swings only counter-clockwise. The YM caseback is much thinner than that of the Sub...........hence, the lower waterproof rating of just 100 m as compared with the Sub's 300 m.

Both use the same calibre 3135 movement.

Bracelets are a bit different. YM has the OYSTERLOCK bracelet without diver extension; whereas the Sub uses the OYSTER FLIPLOCK or the new GLIDELOCK bracelet with diver extension links.

Also, the YM has polished center links and the markings on the bezel are raised.

Correct, and these centre links are solid as opposed to the older Sub whose centre links are hollow.

YM has a little more eye candy, and the sub is just a 50 year old look that everyone loves..

so its practically the same watch just one is in black and the other in silver especially if yout not going to need more than 330 ft of water resisitance

IMO, they're not at all the same watch. Not in look or feel. There is a significant list of differences...raised markings on bezel, platinum dial & bezel, maxi dial, polished center links, 100m vs. 300m, bracelets, clasps, etc.

Practically speaking, they may serve a similar purpose. But then, so do a lot of other watches when using the same criteria.

Yep............ that's about it except for some slight cosmetics (lug shape/materials)

All of the parts on both watches are completely interchangeable........

NO. The Yachtmaster has in the practical world the same water resistance like the Sub. The crown has the same technology and the same water resistance; therefore you can use the Yachtmaster for diving. The only difference is: the Sub has a diver extension in the bracelet.

Internally they are the same watch, but externally they are different.

Apart from the visual differences (bezel, dial colour and material, bracelet etc) the external difference that isn't visible is the stronger caseback for the Sub to enable a higher depth rating.

Actually, the YM will NOT have the same waterproof rating as the Sub as it has a case back thickness that is approx. half that of the Sub.

It's the thickness of the case back as well as the Triplock crown that gives the Sub a 300m depth rating.

I would also add that, at least for me, the YM is a bit more comfortable fit
as the case is a bit more smooth & rounded than the Sub block shape.

Good luck!

I wouldn't worry about the Yachtmaster and the water. You can use it as a dive watch up to maximum depths a human can dive. And that's the fact.

If your talking about Stone Cold, yeah he has one had an article in Watch Time last month.

I like mine. The GMTIIC was my first Rolex, and my next one was the YM. It just seemed at the time this would be a bit more dressy but yet sporty watch. I'm pleased.
