New Member - sold my 5513 20+ years ago - I want it back

Hello, new to your forum.

About 25 years ago I used my 2nd paycheck of my first full time job to purchase a brand new 5513. A few years later a co-worker ordered an Explorer II, and when the dealer brought it over, he didn't like; on the spot I sold my 5513 to another co-worker, and purchased the Explorer. I remember it as if it was yesterday, I paid $1,500 for it, sold the 5513 for $1,200.

A few years later I started regretting not having kept the 5513, and now the time has come to replace it. I have emailed the 2nd owner of my watch (the guy I sold it to and who I still deal with regularly) to ask for the watch back, but I'm almost sure he won“t sell it back.

Anyway, and to get to the point, what should I look for? I know I want a gilt dial and don't mind a later model (as mine was). Where is the best place to find one (quite a few on eBay, but....)? How much should I pay for a good one, of course used, hopefully all original, but in very good shape?

Thanks for your help

Henry

Henry, i assume that your 5513 was an 80's manufacture. Those 5513 was the last produced with the gloss dial and wg surrounding the lume. They go for around $3.5-5K....If you decided to go for a gloss gilt dial(producted from the late 50's to early to mid 60's) they range from $6.5K (for a beater) to $10K for one in a mint condition.

Try a few of the sellers here on the sales forum as well as VRF sales forum as a few pop up there as well from time to time.

You can still find nice matte 5513 (8.3mill and under) for around $4K. I just sold a very nice '67 all orig, single owner w/ history meters first 5513 for $4500 (no papers or box though). $5500 will get you a gilt 5513 if you look hard and long enough!

Thanks for your comments and suggestions, I guess it's a matter of keeping an eye open. I will ask for advise when I find one I like.

Mailman, yes I still have the EXPII. Great watch and it is still almost perfect after 20+ years

What would you guys think of this one for example, it is missing pictures of the inside and back, but it looks good. Appreciate your comments.

Educate me please!

My story is almost identical. I sold my 5513 18 years ago for £500, having first bought it for SGD1500 several years prior. The reasons for selling it at the time: it didn't have a date, the crystal scratched too easily and I wanted an Explorer II.
That sale is my biggest watch-related regret. I miss the domed plexiglass........

The crystal indeed scratched too easily, but I certainly miss the domed plexiglass. Ihope to be able to fix that soon

Hi

Sorry to hear that you miss your watch so much. :( Don't worry about scratches
on your crystal. Nothing a little toothpaste, auto sol, or polyWatch with some rubbing won't fix.

The 5513 that you show in the sale forum looks to be a wonderful watch. Everything looks as it should and in great shape.

Also Jacek is a tip notch seller, with no worries.

Make him an offer he can't refuse.

I have exchanged emails with him, he doesn't want to sell, and he is the kind of guy that doesn't need the money, the offer would have to be totally stupid, and I'm not prepared to do that if I can find a suitable replacement.

Icon14 New or aged?

Are you looking for one with patina or white plots?

This is inbound and will be my first Sub.

Can't hardly wait for it to get here.

Lots of glare in this pic. I'll take better pics once it arrives.

Thanks for the welcome. I swore that I wouldn't add another forum to the mix, but here I am. Similar to the "This is my last watch for a while" commitment.

I'll reach out to Steve again when he returns from the UK. Something has to be done about the pearl.

Cheers,
Joe
