Spouse's Opinion of Your Watch Obsession

TRFers

Please enlighten me with your comments concerning your spouse's opinion of your watch obsession.

The only time my wife ever looks at me like I am completely batty and out of my mind is when I am either drooling over the latest issues of watch magazines, staring at my collection, or talking about my "other children" (pieces in my collection).

Am I the only one that gets the "look" from their spouse?

Have fun with this thread and lets hear some humorous stories!

In addition, what are some instances that you have acted out in some crazy or unusual behavior episodes concerning your watch collection in the past that you now look back upon and get a good laugh?

I used to talk to my Sub and ask "her" is she was too hot or cold on my wrist and would adjust my shirt sleeve dependent upon what she said....

First off, my wifey likes OMEGA, and hates ROLEX; 'they're gaudy,' she says, and the 'look' presents itself when she sees StevO's paypal charges !

Well my wife actually loves her two watches but she isn't a WIC like us. She appreciates I bought her nice watches and she knows the difference between a nice watch and a piece of junk but she definitely rolls her eyes at me at times. But it is all in good fun.

Finally got my wife to the "darkside" (from Omega)!
She still gives me the "WTF" look when I take wrist pix while we are out and about/travelling

My wife kinda ignored my passion up to the point I started filling my second quad winder with no sign of letting up. She knows me well enough (after 28 years of marriage and 6 years of dating) that she's not going to change me, so she might as well join me. While she doesn't know it yet, her new surprise will be under the tree.

My lady is very compromising. I found her weakness......LV. Got her a strap for my 210 and I haven't worn it one day since. She loves it...

My wife doesn't have any negative views towards my watch obsession, but I don't think she really gets it either. That changed when I bought her a Datejust. She loves it, but still doesn't have the fascination I have with timepieces, which is fine with me. Everyone has their thing.

As for the money end of it, we both manage our own money, so it's not really an issue, and I certainly don't go overboard with it. I pay cash for what I buy, and tend to have long periods between new watches. I currently have three Swiss watches, with another on the way. Compared to some around here, I'm nothing but an amateur.

As far as she's concerned, they're just temporary --- like the two cats my wife brought home in back in December 1999....

Hi Mik,

Where did you get it? I'm sure wifey would also appreciate those leathers to match her bags and wallet

Thanks

Great question!

My wife thinks "I am sick" (of course, said with a smile!) because I love TRF and Rolexes.

She thought it was kinda dumb to have so many watches.

Then I started on pens, which seems to have pushed the bar even higher.

On the bright side, there now seems to be no protest as to how much I spend on cars!

We went out together today looking at my possible next watch (amongst other things of course!)...Couldn't be more supportive and encouraging of my passion for watches. In fact... loved the PAM 88 so much and since has kept looking at me asking if I'm still thinking about it :)

My spouse was initially amused. Once I'd bought three, she thought I was crossing over. I've used the pity card, rewarding myself for a back surgery with a SS Daytona. But when push comes to shove, I remind her of her love of Tiffany jewelry and her collection, and she tends to keep quiet about my watch purchases.

My wife just doesn't "get it" to be honest.

She "tolerates" it......??
"Accepts" it.....??

But she certainly doesn't "get it" by any means.

Then again though the ONLY people I've ever met "in real life" that DO "get it" are from here on the forum!
