Icon20 Vintage omega constellation

Hola Amigos!! Hello Friends!!

As you may know, by reading my usual posts at the Rolex sections, Iīm more a Rolex fan than follower of other watch brands, but anyway, my WIS heart has a place for some other beauties as well. Omega is another favorite of mine of course.

Fact is, that I have been looking after a good example of an Omega Constellation model for some time.
I find its "pie pan" dial so charming, and the gold case and leather straps so elegant.

Last Sunday, I came across this one, while browsing through the windows of my local friendly vintage watches shop.
I fell in love inmediately (love at first sight REALLY happens!!) and after a little chatting and discussing, arrived to a nice deal with the seller. (He IS really friendly!).

I took it home, and gave a little polish to its original plastic "glass". I discovered that original plastic, has a very little "Omega" design in the very center of dial glass!! very difficult to see, and more to photograph, but it is there if original plastic.

Watch came with a very plain and very dark brown leather set of straps, not Omega original, but its original gold buckle with the Omega sign was present.

Straps were too plain to my personal "gusto", so I quickly changed them for a new more gaudy set (Italian Morelattoīs which are the Ferraris of watch bands, I am told). I put the original gold buckle to this new set.
May be they are not the taste of everybody, but they surely add some "light" to the watch.
You may see both straps in the photos. Anyway, tastes are tastes!!

The Constellation was a first class watch indeed. Very elegant, it offered different configurations of dials, cases, and metal straps, including full gold.
This one, got a gold dial, and gold indexes with black lacquer inserts.
Its automatic movement works "as an Omega", with incredible accuracy.
And we are speaking of a 50 years watch!

I love this little cute watch so much, that I didnīt care to put my Rolexes to a little rest this whole week!

Hope you like it and thank you for your attention!!
best cordial regards, Abel

Eddie: hello! Thank you for your comments. Yes, Omegas are a great value. Classic watches, and nice designs. Love to know you enjoy yours.

Widows Son:
Thank you! Yes, the watch was serviced, as all watches in this store are serviced and checked before putting them on display for sale.
This watch works very, very accurately.
I found a difference of around 15/20 seconds during the seven days Iīve been wearing it. Also I left it 24 hours on my home desk, and found it perfectly working with the reserve. Looks perfect, including the original plastic "glass" as explained.
Thank you for your interest.
Best cordial regards, Abel.

Nice Connie

Muy linda Abel

The black marker centers are onyx not enamel, so much the better. You are right on with these 551, 561, 564 Connies. These are some of the finest Chronometers ever made, incredibly accurate even by today's standards and will still keep accurate time to this day.
Here are some of mine (on the right)

Woooww!! Steve!! THATīs A COLLECTION!!

Awesome indeed. Iīm shocked!
Congrats! Thatīs surely the result of many years of true collecting sense!

Thank you for your clarification about my watch indexes. Seller told me it was lacquer, surely he is not knowledgeable enough.

I love the looks of the Connie dial (pie pan). It is so unique!
You are right, I was surprised with the accuracy of this old little watch.

Thank you so much for writing and sharing your most wonderful collection. Iīm sure you must enjoy it so much.
Best cordial regards, Abel.

You struck gold in more ways than one

Abel, you snagged one of the less common Constellation 168.006 Deluxe model with 18k solid gold dial.

Very sharp - just look at those bevels on the lugs and the sharpness of the bezel - a superb piece

Cheers

Desmond

Hello Desmond!!
Thank you so much for helping me to identify my new watch.
I know very little about Omega models, but Constellations are surely among my favorites.
Iīm delighted to know your opinion about this particular example I had just found.
I visited your web page, and found very informative, and enjoyed browing. I will be visiting your page again several times to read every article about vintage Omegas. Very informative!

Thank you again for writing!

Heres my Connies a cal 505 with jet markers and dauphine hands. Trying to date it as 505 started in 1957 , 58 model had kites and 551 replacement for 505 came in in 1960. Also have a mint Model C cal 751, the last of the genuine omega built movements(introduced in 1967 replaced with 1001 eta based in 1969).

Thank you for your kind comment Brandon!!
You are right. Lotīs of nice oldies are there, just waiting for a new home and some loving care.
As a matter of fact, I got another nice little Omega manual wind some days after my Constellation find. You can take a look at my new post of today: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=149618

Yes, I should look after a moon face Omega soon!
Thank you for your message again!
very cordially, Abel.

I LOVE the vintage Omega Connies....

Educating myself about Omega and the Constellation Pie Pans of the 50's and 60's fostered my transformation into a WIS....
