Omega Seamaster

Hi,

I am looking to buy a Seamaster non-chrono. I see a lot of debate on 2500 not necessarily an upgrade to 1200 movement, that being said, I am getting a 2650 OTD price from a local AD for a co-axial movement.
Is that worth the price or should I get a used one with 1200 movement. I couldnt get the 1200 movement anymore so if I have to get a new one its 2500 movement only.

Any help would help me out. Thanks.

I think that $2,650.00 out the door including all taxes is a great price from your AD! Sold my 2220.80.00 last year for $1,800.00 CAD used. See them brand new in the box or from grey dealers selling for only $300 or $400 USD less than what your AD is asking roughly.

The older movement is all you really need, rugged and "should" be serviced approximately every 5 years. BUT Co-Axial is not just a marketing tactic in my honest opinion. It has some advantages, is exclusive to Omega technology and will change service intervals to every 7-10 years depending on use! I had two watches with the 2500 movement and it is amazing! Very accurate, rugged and just fantastic.

Omega has three variations on the Caliber 2500 movement. 2500A, 2500B and 2500C. This is basically just them sorting out issues and making improvements over the years. Anything you buy from an AD now is likely going to be the 2500C. The 2500A was in my Planet Ocean, it was very loud and a bit different. My 2220.80.00 had a 2500C and it was MUCH better.

My advice again in the end, once you like the watch go for it! This price brand new from an AD is good (paid $3,300.00 CAD with a 22% discount for mine in November 2007!!!). The advantages of the Caliber 2500 make it worth while for sure. My only reason for parting with them is the fact they were like a compromise to me in the end. My true passion was for Rolex only so finally decided to speed up that process by selling them. Hope to see pictures if you end up going ahead with this!
