Supercase on Basel Explorer II?

Even if the authenticity of the "spy photos" is in dispute, the Explorer II update seems like a foregone conclusion. Maxi dial is inevitable, orange 24 hour hand is probable. What is the likelihood of the new Explorer having a supercase with thicker lugs (similar to the GMT2C and the SubC)?

The watch does not appear to have a supercase in the preview photos. I wouldn't think bulking up an "explorers" watch is really in line with its original purpose. Wouldn't that increase the likelihood of banging it on cave walls?

However, the Explorer II and the GMT II 16710 pretty much share the same case, so I wonder if they give the new model a super size case in line with the GMT2C.

Any feedback from the pros here would be appreciated. I'm not a supercase fan, so if they bulk up the case I plan to snap up the discontinued model.

I agree that the lifted videos / still did NOT make the Expy II look supercased.

However, no way to know for sure until March!

The Sub is supercased...and one could argue you don't want more metal to bang on the coral!!

I dont know why they would ruin it and put it in a super case... I think the expy II is just fine the way it is!

I guess only time will tell for sure. For me personally would not be shocked if it did end up with a super case. One advantage to the less refined case is for the long run against material loss from re finishing. Can not wait to see what Rolex does with it in the end

I think chances are greater than 50% it will come with the supercase, strictly for economies of scale. There is no reason to perpetuate an old style when all the new watches have moved toward a new design. I'm not sure if the dimensions between the old sub and current exp II were identical, but they were certainly close.

Case in point with you Dan and you're reaction to the 16610LV...in fact after wearing my GMT2C for a week my Pepsi feels like a feather...but it 'looks' like it has more weight.

well, the 39mm explorer wasn't supersized....

but, every other sport model was, so, explorer ii will be, too. no doubt.

i'm not for it, but, you can't fight "progress".

Wasn't the 39mm explorer supersized from 36mm? I'd like to see the new exp ii keep the same case, but the 39mm explorer precedent gives me a reason to worry.

It for sure will have the new style bracelet and clasp. My AD confirmed that for me a year and a half ago, and he said although Rolex has been tight lipped on everything else, what they have indeed shared is that every model in the professional lineups will have the updated bracelets and clasps within the next few years. Seems like this is one of the last ones to receive it.

i was speaking about the case being supersized to the supercase, sorry. the 39mm explorer still has lugs that blend with the bracelet....

Fashion, trends, the bigger watches are part of the classics now...i.e. Panerai......Rolex has made a bigger sub, sea-dweller/deep sea, datejust, day-date, yachtmaster & explorer.........what do they have left????? Daytona, expl. 2, air-king????
On the women's side...there's a 31mm lady datejust & the 36mm datejust is now on the women's side on the Rolex website.
Rolex has done it in their subtle way......like Porsche & Mercedes, their styles are evolutionary, not revolutionary.
It's a free watch world to each his/her own........as a card carrying curmudgeon, I say bah humbug, I prefer the watches pre-enlargement!
