The Cost of Ink

Am I the only person who is hacked off at the cost of ink?

Parker Quink in my local WH Smith (apologies to those on the other side of the Atlantic - a stationery chain-store) is now GBP5.99 for a 58ml bottle. Now at GBP 1 per 10ml that'e even more expensive that good whisky. In fact the only thing I can think of that's rel;atively more expensive is perfume, and we all know what a rip-off industry that is!

Rant over.

Rob

Rob, I'm not sure how much money that converts to in U.S. funds but ink here in Chicago runs between $9.00 to $17.00USD per bottle depending on the brand and where you buy it!!!
Btw welcome to the Forum.....

Six quid is about ten dollars Australian...That seems a titchy bit high. But I have known inks that sell for more, depending on quantity and brand.

Fountain pen ink cartridge is still definitely cheaper than your inkjet cartridges...

Ink is definitely expensive when you think in terms of Scotch Whiskey.

Is ink that difficult/expensive to make?

I've been using Noodlers Ink for the last couple of days and I really like the flow/colour (blue/black) but at $25 per bottle it is quite a lot.

Everything retail here in Australia have a markup of 60-100% to US prices. Consumers here get creamed on nearly everything. Even for itunes songs - US accounts pay $0.99 (correct?) we pay $1.79 ( I think) and US$ ~= A$.

2C is right. That's why the only thing I buy from local pen-shops is the ink. I simply can't afford to buy anything else. And even the ink is pretty expensive.

This post from other forum has useful info for getting good deal on good ink, but not cheap ink though.

Yes. Engeika has the cheapest Iroshizuku ink. His price is like 20% off Japanese RRP.

So what is that Japanese Pilot ink like?
It looks like pretty fancy packaging...but does it deliver the goods compared to say Montblanc ink?

Steve the Iroshizuku inks produce better shading than MBs. Also, the colours are "sharper" with more contrast than MB inks, IMHO.

Thanks Kai, I like the look of the 'Deep Blue'.
I don't have a nice blue ink so maybe I will give one of these a try.
