Icon5 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust - Original or just a good replica?

Hi guys,
i just got a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust watch from my uncle that looks original to me but i'm not a specialist in watches, after a few hours of digging in google i found out that it may be original and it was made in about 1980, and it's value is about 2000$
how can i be sure about it's originality?
i took a few pictures

Your watch is not a replica its a down right fake, made to deceive thats its real. And if it was real and made in the 1980s it most certainly would not have Swiss Made on dial its worth nothing.

Please explain just what made you get to that assumption after your hours of research.....

Here we go again on our high horses. We have to believe the guy is genuine in his question. Why do we always question people who ask if a fake watch is real? We all know that there is very little chance of us being fooled, so tell the guy that it is fake and make that the end of it.
He doesn't have to explain why he came to that conclusion - he already stated he does not know about Rolex watches. Unless he came across an article on date mag or case backs, he wouldn't necessarily know just from pics. It does look like a Datejust so it's believable that a total novice would assume that it could be genuine.

um... unless this is a one-off trade-show demo piece, i don't think i've ever seen a rolex with a clear case back.

Well, from the photos, I can absolutely assure you that it is NOT 'just a good replica'. It is in fact a very bad fake. It might bring 20 cents for scrap metal. Sorry.

And certainly not one with a 50-cent Chinese movement in it...

just curious on how he got to that conclusion... because if he saw an article in case backs, he could also think this one is fake...

Clear casbacks are fine.. so long as folks know that they are not original..

However, when you look in, you should see a Rolex movement.. This one is definitely not Rolex..

A clear case back made out of stainless steel, and a De Ville to boot? Talk about an identity crisis

Don't know about this specific thread, but often these things turn out to be scams against members, as in they are hoping a newbie will PM them with an offer to buy it. Or perhaps, the OP is a fake-maker and is trying to find out if his newest creation passes muster; or any number of other oddities that have popped up over the years when these types of threads appear. OR, of course, it could be completely legitimate.

I agree, to a true newbie, there is a TON of confusing info on the interweb...
