need advice on possible purchase of presidential

I am new to the rolex world and my dad's neighbor has one for sale. No pics but here is decription
42 diamond bezel
round diamonds on 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 oclock positions
completely gold case and band with 18k mark and diagonal opposite oval halmark on back
black face date and day
green holo logo on back with rolex crown and number 18956
on inside of clasp near hole has words rolex in crown scroll, GENEVE, Swiss made, oval with word in it I cant read, 18k, 750, shield halmark and figure 8 halmark
There is no silver rub through anywhere
the crown on the wind knob is clear with underlined
feels solid,
crown on clasp clear and set into notch when closed
I would appreciate any assistance I can get. He wouldn't let me take it out of his house so I wrote down everything I could see.
I looked online and no help.
Thanks for any assistance. I didnt see any seriel number or anything exposed.

It's a Rolex Day-Date. It may or may not have the President band on it.

The serial and model are between the lugs.

Do yourself a favor and have it authenticated before you purchase.

Do they all have a seriel number and model number?
My dad took off the band and there is none on either end of the case between lugs.
The hallmarks do look good.

I just did a google on Rolex 18956.
What a beautiful watch.

There should be numbers between the lugs.

Try to get at least one nice pic and post it here.

So, what advice do you need exactly?

100% authentication can only be done by an AD.
TRF can only give opinions as to whether it's real or not. If, on the other hand it's your neighbour. It's likely that if you buy it (as a real Rolex) and get it authenticated the next day at an AD, your neighbour will still be living next door, right? So, no worries there.
Again, what's the advice you speak of in the title?

All round diamonds on dial sounds like aftermarket or fake to me.

What is the asking price?

I was hoping for an idea of it being real or not. If there is supposed to be a seriel number and model between the lugs then it's not real. Unless maybe older one's were somewhere's else.

It's impossible to value without seeing but per your description it doesn't smell good.

Can't you tell him that you'll go with him and the watch to an AD?
If it's real, you'll pay him, plus a coffee for his time. If it's not, he'll pay you a coffee for your time and apologize profusely.

Can you tell if there might have been numbers between the lugs at one time? Ive seen serial numbers and model numbers get "scratched" off from older models because of the end pieces...

There is no evidence of numbers. I am going to assume it's not real and offer him a mere pittance of what he was asking as it is a very nice looking piece. I'll be on my search for another deal... thx for your replys.

at least take pictures of it and post them here, it will give experienced TRF members a chance to better identify the watch. But as stated before Definitely take it to the AD. Also if the price is too good to be true...I would worry.

We're all here to help.

If it's not real, my 2 cents is that you should save your money.

Day-Date has round diamonds on the dial as an option, not necessarily a fake. The lack of numbers between the lugs is what would worry me personally.

Agree but since we're talking about (supposedly) a masterpiece it has baguettes at 6 & 9 and not round diamonds.

That is absolutely right. I stand corrected.
