DANGER: This book might increase your addiction!

Well, sort of. Just got in the mail the book "The Best of Time Rolex Wristwatches" by Dowling/Hess. Schiffer book for collectors.

Good coverage on a lot models. The sub history was very informative and now I know why that the British military issue 5513 is so sought after. I even saw a pic of the LV. It was also mentioned in the article to commemorate the 50th anniversary! LV owners should get this book!

Compared to the Panerai book, this is a more informative book. The Panerai is more showy because of the nice layout and pictures.

Any other Rolex book that you can recommend?

That is a good one for sure. I have had the pleasure of meeting both of those authors a few times. One of them posts here from time to time.

Yeah really interesting. I just read the part on company history and how they bought out the component manufacturers to maintain margins. They even went to the extent of owning the bldgs to lock-on costs etc. The foundation has a lock-on on the controlling shares so the vision of the founder will carry on.

It even has a anti-dilution clause! Wow, an investment banking idea hatched in the early days. Well maybe it was done in the last 20 yrs.

Great buisnesses usually make the right decisions in a number of different areas. Rolex I believe is a great success story.

Sometimes to achieve success you have to have a bit of luck as well. Although Hans Wilsdorf was unlucky that he had no heirs, Rolex may have been lucky. I think the charitable part of this company is not only a great philantropic kind of thing, but will actually help them as well. This kind of thing I believe will help prevent people from looking tomake the quick buck.

I think you will see a good number of smart and lucky examples that exist in the Rolex company history.

I've got to pick up a copy of that book. My girlfriend frowns on my "reference" book collection. I think it is a tech field/academia thing.

Very interesting book. I bought mine about 6 months ago from alibris dot com. It only cost $22.82 plus a few dollars shipping and was in like new condition.
