Is it me or are "Replica" watches getting way too real

Long story short I got a Sub-C last week and noticed a guy with what appeared to be a 16610 without lug holes looking at it. He said the watch was beautiful and I said I had just got it a few days earlier. I said he had a beautiful watch as well but he was honest and flat out told me it was a replica. I was shocked. He took it off and I looked at it. I couldn't believe the quality. He said his brother gave it to him after buying a real Sub. I consider myself pretty good at spotting fakes but this watch looked 100% real to me. I'm not sure you could tell it wasn't a Rolex unless you looked at the guts. That got me thinking about "replica" watches and I'm seeing now that the best quality ones even come with the LEC???? Crazy. Also I can't believe that some of the watches are $500+ and some almost $1k. I would be willing to guess that the quality of those watches are pretty good as well. I wonder how long they would last as a daily wearer. According to some of the sites some of the movements keep very good time. I'm so shocked. I always thought the fakes were like the one I got in NYC when I was in middle school that turned my wrist green and had a quartz movement. Sorry for rambling or if this post was against the rules but this info really makes me nervous about buying 2nd hand if I didn't know the seller or have it checked out buy a pro. My Mom's best friend had her WG DJ serviced by a friend of a friend's jeweler (or something like that) when I was younger. I remember that she had issues and sent it to the RSC. The called her back and said all the watch was genuine except the movement. She did buy the watch new in the 80's. I just wanted to express my concern about how quality the fakes are now. It is really amazing to me. Has anyone else came across "fakes" that they couldn't tell were fake? Sorry for rambling but I am still in shock at what I've seen searching the web the past few hours.

Against the rules!
Replica discussion has no place on TRF....There are other sites (illegal), that cater to that unfortunately!
