Chamfers

OK, so there has been a TON of hype around "chamfers" and how they can be "original", "crisp", "thick", etc. All of this recent hype has caused me to look down at my 16610LV and realize that is has no chamfers. When did Rolex stop producing watches with this small detail on the lugs? There is actually a watch for sale right now (TRF sale section) that is a 16610 R-serial that has chamfers. While we're at it, feel free to post pics displaying those lugs and chamfers! I wonder if lug-fever will ever be cured from the WIS community...? It also makes me wonder what the next big thing will be... maybe crispy clean lug holes?

Here a photo of my NOS 16750 GMT...

I believe that through the years of Rolex production the chamfers have decreased to a point where the new models have non at all.

My Sub LV has 'em. Lousy pic I know. I'm actually at one of my offices but took a quick pic. My Sub is an F serial.

Well, since you mentioned "it," I can tellya that lug holes are the most visual "tell" for a case to see if its ever been touched by the likes of manual poliching* attempt.

The term, "bowling," literally means the hole is actually spooned out from its original cut, by inconsistent pressure applied while trying to remove scratches or the like; the amount of spooning tells how much has been removed and thus tells the story and the life or death of the mid casing...

The term I use for Supercased models is "sterile" mid casings, they've got no charecter, no longer are the decks brushed diagonally and the presence of chamfer - an ommitted operation, [its the less is more concept in maximizing tooling and processes by ROLEX]...

Great shots everyone! So is it safe to say that Rolex has completely faded out chamfers? Kokota, I also have a V-series LV and I don't see any chamfers at all on my watch. Your pic makes it look like there is a mild bevel to the edge - is that just the way the light hits the edge?

Submarino, I am not seeing the chamfer! Maybe I am looking to hard?

I guess all of these fun little details are just another reason to go vintage!! So is there a definitive date/serial/etc. that Rolex stopped beveling the edges of their cases? Or did it slowly fade out with slightly less chamfer over time?

I love chamfers. Some of these examples are simply awesome.

On the SD 16600, there is a very slight chamfer that looks more like a shine on the edge vs. a discrete angle variation. I can see it on my M-serial, but not nearly as overt as the vintage-style chamfers.

My vintage 1680 (allegedly unpolished) has signs of chamfers, but the case has enough scratches and patina to obscure clean chamfers. I think there would be hope of a good polisher like Dalton bringing the real chamfers back to life, but not sure if I want to risk it on a watch that is already so nice.

My LV has chamfers.
They are not big chamfers but little chamfers are better.

Nice pix everybody.
I'd kill for your 1655 Larry.
