That's A Relief...!

I've been very happy with my white Exp II (16570) for 18 months now, and other than its smaller brother, the flawless Exp I, I've never been that taken with any other Rolexes (well, perhaps a SS Daytona...) However, recently I've been thinking about Sub's. It's not my fault, of course, it's this forum!

So, rather than waste any more time pondering whether a Sub might just be a perfect addition, I headed off to Mappin & Webb (near Fenchurch Street) this lunchtime and tried one on. There was a new white Exp II too so obviously I had to give that a go.

Now, you might think this was quite a dangerous thing to do, 'cause once you've actually seen the goods that can ratchet up the desire no end. However, good news...! The Sub was just too meaty for my preference (and wrist size), and unsurprisingly the Exp II was too. What a relief, eh :-)

I picked up the 2012 Rolex brochure whilst I was there, which included a full UK pocket sized price list - most expensive watch listed...? 39mm Day-Date 18956 BRIL, a bargain at only £183,660 :-O

On reflection then, the only other Rolex I would really consider spending my money on is an Exp I. It's not as nice as the black Exp II, mind you... which is why I have one of those too. I've not worn it though. It is brand new and never even been on my wrist in 18 months, with all stickers and booklets in the box. I've just given it a wind once a month. Do I keep the nicest looking watch I've ever seen, and actually wear it, or break up the pair and sell it? Let me know if you are interested... that might sway me

So, the 14060M is the Sub before it got a ceramic bezel and got extra chunky then. Mmm... I think you could be right, John :-)

Leo - you're probably right. I don't want to get rid of the black 16570. It is stunning, and I know I'd seriously regret it if I sold it, but I'm still struggling with being able to justify having more than one luxury watch. Having said that, I often still find myself chuffed to bits with my polar 16570 on my wrist! It is fabulous :-)

The 14060M is the Sub ND. The 116610 SubC Date replaced the 16610 Sub Date.

Ah, thanks Dan. I'd definitely prefer the 16610 with the date.

GAH! What am I saying?! One is enough, right?

Seems like fate had other plans for my black 16570 (which I did actually buy as an investment, mostly). This evening my wife had a friend round who loves watches and she noticed the Rolex catalogue I had in my hand. She got very excited and wanted to take a look. Of course, I mentioned that I had a brand new Rolex I was thinking of getting rid of and when she saw it she almost bit my hand off! She loved it and wanted me to give her a price!

At the risk of much future regret, looks like I may be with just my white 16570 shortly. The black one would be going to a very deserving home and the money will certainly come in handy. And I do have a Citizen Ecodrive and a Tao International to, er.. enjoy... Must avoid watch shops at all costs!
