We did it again!!!

Last evening, RHYC annual Awards Banquet, we were named Yacht of the Year.

We busted our butts all season, pushed Blown Away as hard as a boat can be raced, and ended up winning all the marbles. We beat everyone on corrected time, including the Swan 47 in my avatar. Not bad for the smallest boat in the club.

I'd like to thank Nancy, Albert, John, Muriel, and Peter, without whom this season couldn't have happened.

Sorry for bragging, guys, but we worked hard all year for this and I'm still stoked.

Congrats!!! What was the time spread for the top 3? Was it a squeaker or more like a few minutes?

Congrats Al!

I love sailing and racing. I owned a Mirage 236 for a few years and won a few races myself.

It's all about the crew without them the captain is only solo at that point.

Congrats again!

Absolutely. I didn't win that award, the whole crew did, especially Albert who's raced the boat with me for 10 years.

That's also why I don't do singlehanded races any more, nobody else to blame for the screwups.

We won our division, but then it came down to how we'd made out against the other division champions throughout the season, comparing our race by race corrected time against theirs. After 19 races we were faster in 11, and the other 2 fleet champions posted faster corrected times in 6 and 2 races respectively.

That cinched the overall title, but the Yacht of the Year trophy is subjective and awarded by a committee. There were other club boats that had posted strong finishes at out of town events, but bringing in the most donation money at our Easter Seals Regatta fund raiser for disabled kids probably helped put us over the top, even though we finished way down in mid fleet in that one.

All in all, we had a great season thanks to a dedicated crew.
