5130 World Time or 5396 Calatrava
Hi guys
Just wondering what your thoughts were on these 2 watches. 5130: a distinctively PP piece, although VC make one simpler, the PP is better all-round, and the micro rotor is just fantastic. A unique piece, but maybe a little dial busy and difficult to read the time. Great complication for frequent travellers. 5396: a step into the great PP territory, an annual calendar. Simple, clean lines and useful day/month indicators. A Calatrava classic. I understand they are apples and oranges, but if you had to choose one, what would it be? What is also likely to be more unique/collectible in future? Thanks |

Like'em both
From a pure esthetical point of view - it's the 5130 by a hair. The Wordtime is one hell of a beautiful watch, even for a sometimes skeptical PP fan that I am. Not knowing your collection, it will probably contrast well with your other watches? I would love to own a Worldtimer in a 40-42mm size if it's ever made. The calendar is quite beautiful as well, perhaps its a tad less agressive and more of a traditional dress watch...? I would chose the worldtime, unless you are convinced that you prefer a calendar for it's complication. |

The 5396 is very nice but I'd go for the WT.
Good luck. Best, Goh |

I am biased considering I have always wanted a 5131... either way you can't go wrong because WT and Annual Cal are the two that will hold their value.
I can't see any changes to Annual Cal, but if one of the cities on the WT dial change then that becomes unique/collectible in future. |

I like them both. Very tough decision. There's a 5130R for sale on TRF.

Geez, that is one hard decision to make!
I really love both and think the 5130 is a real masterpiece as well as a beautiful watch but for an only Patek I would prefer the 5396 myself (although I prefer the 5146 but let's not go there...), it is much more of a classic and since I'm personally not a big traveler I'd prefer to have an annual calendar. ...Besides, there's a lovely moonphase indicator on it and I think the complications are well displayed on the dial!

5130 useful complication/ difficult to read/ beautiful
Vs 5396 annual complication w moon/ tedious to set/ beautiful As sexy as the world time is, I feel I would be betraying myself not getting the 5396 which is is decidedly more legible.

5396 for me. I tried to like the World Time because, well, c'mon! Patek freakin' World Time, right?!?!?
I just can't get past the time dial. I know the dimensions of the case are standard, but when I look at the 5130, I see a tiny dial in a case that seems too big. The visual trick it plays on my simple mind is just not one that I like. When I first was introduced to fine watches, many had similar styles to the Patek 5396. So I have admired that style for a long time... |

I never liked the World Time, until I tried one on! It's since been one of my favourate PP. I'd choose it with a bracelet. What a beauty!

I am not too sure about the new 2012 versions of the 5396, having the option to equip the watch with a bracelet in white or rose gold is ofcourse very nice but the brown and blue dials are just 'not it' in my opinion. |
